PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Manny Quirez (ranked 24728 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mohammed Baly (ranked 25160 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Manny Quirez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mohammed Baly!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Winston Alpacca and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Quirez moves in looking to clinch but Baly pushes him off.
Quirez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Baly tries to avoid it but Quirez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Baly to the ground. Baly escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Baly throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Quirez tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Baly is in Quirez's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Baly keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Quirez's head.
Baly makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Baly controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Baly avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Quirez wants to stand but Baly is controlling the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Baly controls from within his opponent's guard.
Quirez controls Baly momentarily but Baly frees himself.
Baly content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Baly lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Quirez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Baly on the ground.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Quirez is trying to keep Baly in close.
Baly not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Baly stands up from Quirez's guard - Baly perhaps looking for a knockout.

Baly gets the takedown into side control.
Baly cracks Quirez with a big elbow.
Baly has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Baly moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Baly prevents Quirez from escaping the position.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Baly decides to stand back up.
Quirez shoots in but no luck this time.
Baly changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Baly changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Quirez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Quirez bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Quirez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Quirez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Baly manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Baly checks a leg kick.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Quirez gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Quirez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mohammed Baly dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Baly closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Quirez to the mat! Quirez manages to get full guard.
Quirez is looking to stand back up but Baly counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Quirez.

Baly has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Quirez tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Baly defends well and Quirez ends up having to push Baly into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Baly is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

A lull in the action here as Baly stalls from top position.

Quirez is in a horrible position here. Baly smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Oh Quirez is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Baly lands a big shot there that rocks Quirez but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Quirez seems to have got his legs back now.
Baly cracks Quirez with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mohammed Baly!
