PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Allen Kenneth (ranked 6538 p4p, 496 weight class) and Ino Suzuki (ranked 7103 p4p, 516 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Allen Kenneth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ino Suzuki!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Radbod Blank and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kenneth gets a takedown into half guard.
Suzuki trying to control but Kenneth postures up.

Suzuki tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Kenneth not landing any meaningful shots this time.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Suzuki is looking to control Kenneth's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Suzuki avoid being mounted?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kenneth looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The fighters are battling for position here. Suzuki manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Kenneth sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Suzuki's guard.
Suzuki is looking for a sweep. Kenneth is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Suzuki is trying to stand back up but Kenneth is controlling him

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
No luck for Suzuki with that takedown attempt.
Kenneth went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Kenneth closes the distance and clinches up with Suzuki, looking for a takedown. Kenneth pushes Suzuki against the cage but Suzuki circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Suzuki drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Kenneth defends it well.
Suzuki shoots in for a double leg but Kenneth sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Kenneth dives in and grabs Suzuki's left leg, looking for a takedown. Suzuki pushes down on Kenneth's head and hops out.
Kenneth shoots in but Suzuki avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Allen Kenneth. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kenneth throws a sloppy head kick and Suzuki moves out of range easily.
Suzuki is looking for the big counter here.
Kenneth is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.

Kenneth shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Suzuki's guard.
Suzuki wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Kenneth manages to pass to side control.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Suzuki is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Kenneth has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Kenneth shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Suzuki manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Suzuki is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Kenneth scores with a couple of nice shots.

This is a sustained period of stalling by Kenneth.

Kenneth is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Suzuki defends it well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Suzuki looks like he's trying to stand up.

Suzuki blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kenneth is on top in guard.

Kenneth is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Allen Kenneth dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Suzuki is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
A head kick misses from Suzuki.
Suzuki is breathing heavily.
Suzuki shoots in looking for a takedown but Kenneth manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Suzuki's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Allen Kenneth has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ino Suzuki.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Kenneth changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Suzuki looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Kenneth lands a big shot there that rocks Suzuki but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Kenneth is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Suzuki can do to turn this around?

Kenneth's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kenneth has the hooks in. Suzuki is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Kenneth has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Suzuki has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Kenneth slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Suzuki is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Kenneth gets his way!

A bit of a pause in the action here. Kenneth controlling the positon.
