PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Rodriguez (ranked 1555 p4p, 190 weight class) and Gasan Yakolev (ranked 786 p4p, 97 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Gasan Yakolev!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Hirohito Nitta.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Yakolev chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Rodriguez can pounce on him.

That kick from Rodriguez tenderised Yakolev's leg. Yakolev is trying to keep his angry face on.

Rodriguez will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

It seemed like Yakolev was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Rodriguez drops Yakolev with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Yakolev looks back up at him and smiles so Rodriguez waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

Yakolev might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Yakolev crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Rodriguez - the referee stops the clock and Yakolev gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Rodriguez. Yakolev manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

After the fight, Gasan Yakolev was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
