Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bea Mason (ranked 3509 p4p, 393 weight class) and Steve Butabi (ranked 2739 p4p, 319 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bea Mason!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Butabi!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Dean Styles and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Butabi shoots in for a double leg but Mason sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Butabi wants to clinch
and Butabi takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Butabi shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Butabi trying to mount his opponent but Mason defends it.
Butabi not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Mason trying to hold on to Butabi's head to control him but Butabi postures up.
Butabi working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Butabi is pressing down on Mason's thigh, looking to free his foot. Mason is holding on for now.

Butabi is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Mason still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Mason has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Butabi is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Mason stands up and beckons Butabi to his feet.
Steve Butabi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Butabi.

Mason fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Butabi sprawls well initially but Mason persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Mason wants to take a breather but Butabi is having none of it.
Butabi trying to hold on to Mason's head to control him but Mason postures up.
Butabi has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Butabi moves into full guard.
Mason tries to free his leg and advance position but Butabi is retaining full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Butabi looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Butabi looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mason is one step ahead there.

Butabi throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Butabi is pulling down on Mason's head. It's preventing any offense from Mason, at least for the moment.
Butabi controls Mason momentarily but Mason frees himself.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Butabi keeping moving, preventing Mason from controlling successfully.

Butabi looking for a guillotine here but Mason defends easily.

Butabi looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Butabi has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mason can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Butabi avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Mason trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Butabi looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Mason passes into side control.
Butabi managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Mason.
Butabi tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Mason tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Butabi wants to control but Mason postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Butabi regains half guard.
Mason wants to control but Butabi is keeping him busy.

Mason is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Butabi sees it coming and defends easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bea Mason dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Mason circles away from the clinch attempt.
Mason changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Butabi tries to avoid it but Mason manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Butabi to the ground. Butabi escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Mason lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Butabi keeping moving, preventing Mason from controlling successfully.
Mason is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Butabi can do to turn this around?

Mason has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Butabi to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Mason is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Butabi pulls down on the head and he's put Mason to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Steve Butabi!
