Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lyoto Yoshida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rodney Alcala!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Jonathan Paton and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Yoshida clinches up against the cage.
Yoshida is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Alcala to keep the fight standing.

Yoshida gets control of Alcala's arms and successfully pulls guard. Yoshida will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Alcala stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Alcala fails to land with a series of punches.
Alcala has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Yoshida is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Alcala moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Lyoto Yoshida has been cut.
Yoshida tries to clinch
letting Alcala counter with a right hand.
Alcala closes the distance and lands a one-two.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Yoshida avoids the body shot from Alcala.
Yoshida throws a big counter combination but Alcala scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Alcala connects with a single shot there.

Alcala gets caught napping as Yoshida dives in and scores a takedown. Alcala manages to retain guard.
Yoshida looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yoshida advances to half guard.
Yoshida content to control rather than advance.
Alcala looks like he's trying to stand up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Yoshida stops Alcala from getting back to his feet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Yoshida on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Yoshida goes for a double leg but Alcala avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Alcala continues to drive forward.
Alcala on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Yoshida misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lyoto Yoshida. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Yoshida fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Alcala sprawls well initially but Yoshida persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Well, if Yoshida is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Yoshida stops Alcala from getting back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Yoshida is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Yoshida has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rodney Alcala dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Lyoto Yoshida's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Yoshida scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alcala wants to get back to his feet.

Alcala wants to get back to his feet but Yoshida is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Yoshida controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Yoshida wants to pass the guard but Alcala is keeping the position.
Yoshida slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Yoshida seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Alcala for as long as he can get away with.

Yoshida is looking to pass into half guard but Alcala pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Alcala is in guard.


Alcala stands up and waves to Yoshida to follow him.
Lyoto Yoshida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alcala feints a jab promting Yoshida to slip. Alcala then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Yoshida slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Lyoto Yoshida is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Alcala rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Yoshida moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Yoshida tries to score a power double leg takedown but Alcala sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Yoshida somewhat.
Alcala fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Yoshida fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Alcala drops Yoshida with a beautiful combination! Yoshida stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Alcala is looking for the KO!


Yoshida is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Yoshida drops his hands for a split second and Alcala immediately capitalizes on the opportunity by smashing a powerful hook into Yoshida face, sending his mouthguard sailing through the air, much to the delight of the crowd. Alcala follows up with a right hand that knocks Yoshida into next week. He's out cold and this fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Rodney Alcala!
Jumping up and down and very excited, Rodney Alcala waved his t-shirt featuring Woodshins' Ship's logo in front of the cameras.
