PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Taylor Jack (ranked 945 p4p, 105 weight class) and Patty Larkin (ranked 2078 p4p, 197 weight class). Jack's entrance music is Lucid Dreams. A fine choice. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Taylor Jack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Patty Larkin!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Kenichi Hosakawa and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good standup being displayed there by Larkin as he connects with a hook.
Larkin has his takedown stuffed
and Jack counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
A low kick from Larkin is predictable there
and Larkin takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Larkin works the jab nicely.
Larkin dives in and grabs Jack's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jack pushes down on Larkin's head and hops out.
We've been told by Jack's head coaches at Fist of Fury Training Center that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Jack wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Larkin shoots in and bounces Jack off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

My spies in Can Factory inform me that Larkin has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Larkin is defended easily by Jack.
Taylor Jack has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Patty Larkin.

and Jack counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Larkin shoots in for a takedown but Jack shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Jack looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Jack swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Larkin tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Larkin throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Jack sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Larkin tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jack was well out of range. Poor timing from Larkin.
Jack was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Jack throws a jab when Larkin was well out of range.

Jack lands a big head kick that sends Larkin tumbling to the mat! Jack takes a step backwards and waves Larkin back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Larkin is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Larkin connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Patty Larkin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Larkin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jack's waist but Jack gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Larkin off to one side.
Jack tests Larkin's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Larkin fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Larkin throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Taylor Jack is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Jack misses the body punch

and Larkin counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jack won't be happy with that.
Larkin in side control, throwing shots but Jack defends.
Larkin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jack keeps working.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Larkin postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Larkin wants to control but Jack is keeping him busy.

Larkin misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Larkin passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Jack!

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Larkin takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Larkin works his way into side control.
Jack defending against the ground and pound.

Larkin tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Larkin wants to control but Jack is keeping him busy.
Larkin grinds an elbow into Jack's temple.
Jack prevents Larkin from improving position.
Jack is looking for a sweep.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patty Larkin dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Jack walks into a jab.
Larkin throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Nice straight punches there by Larkin. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Larkin.
Larkin attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Good leg kick by Larkin there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Larkin throws a lazy head kick
and Jack counters with a nice body shot.
Jack jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Jack scores with a jab to the jaw.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Larkin lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Jack checks the leg kick nicely there.
Jack jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Larkin scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Jack doesn't seem bothered though.

Larkin closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Larkin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jack does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Larkin has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Larkin throws a strike but Jack avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Larkin looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Jack is defending well. Larkin quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Jack has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Larkin celebrates on the ropes, with the crowd.
