Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Marquis Workman (ranked 25044 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nicholas Rice (ranked 25056 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nicholas Rice!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Eddie Farnsworth and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rice closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Rice stands up and beckons Workman to his feet.
Workman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Rice looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Workman keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Rice is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Rice is pressing down on Workman's thigh, looking to free his foot. Workman is holding on for now.
Workman is trying to maintain the position but Rice is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Workman is looking for a sweep. Rice is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Rice wants to take a breather but Workman is having none of it.

Workman is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rice pulls his head out easily.
Workman wants to get back to his feet.
Rice is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Rice is controlling the pace.
Rice is trying to control. Workman wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rice working over Workman with some ground and pound. Workman looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Rice is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Workman defends it well.

Workman has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Rice is on him like a limpet, forcing Workman back against the cage.

Workman pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Rice closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Workman did well to prevent Rice getting side control.

Rice frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Rice blocks Workman's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Rice prevents Workman from getting the reversal.

Rice is working for a guillotine from mount but Workman frees his head quite easily.

Rice postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Workman looks a forlorn figure.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Workman sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Workman wants to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nicholas Rice dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Workman tries to keep at a distance but Rice has taken the fight into the clinch.

Rice jumps guard and drags Workman to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Workman will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Rice closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Workman is trying to control Rice's posture but Rice avoids it.

Rice stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Rice has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Workman regains guard immediately.

Workman keeping moving, preventing Rice from controlling successfully.
Workman lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Rice looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Rice is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Rice manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Workman manages to get himself to full guard.

Rice has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Rice is breathing heavily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Workman manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Rice drags the fight down to the ground.
Rice looking for a sweep. Not yet Rice, not yet.
Workman throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Rice controls Workman momentarily but Workman frees himself.
Workman lands a couple of elbows.
Rice is looking to stand back up but Workman counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Rice.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rice is not content to let Workman control the position.
Rice is looking to get back to full guard here but Workman has managed to pass to side control instead.
Check out the look on Workman's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

A close second round but Nicholas Rice will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Rice feints and as Workman raises his hands in defense, Rice changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Workman seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rice wants to get back to full guard.
Marquis Workman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Nicholas Rice is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
