Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Donny Banks (ranked 5137 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nathan Jones (ranked 5134 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Donny Banks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nathan Jones!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, John Mangel and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Banks darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Jones tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Banks manages to move to mount!
Banks landing punches.
A nice elbow there by Banks.
Jones slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Banks seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Banks is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Banks prevents Jones from improving his position.
Banks working the head and body with strikes.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Banks perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Banks has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Banks is looking for a kimura but Jones is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Banks to get the leverage.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Banks decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Banks instigates a clinch.
Jones has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Banks is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Banks tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jones just stands there and leans against the cage.

Banks drags the fight down to the ground.

Banks working for a triangle but Jones defends it easily.

Banks manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Jones closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Banks quickly recovers to half guard.
Jones blocks the strikes from Banks.
Banks moves into full guard.

Jones drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Banks manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Jones has Banks in his guard.

Jones wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Banks manages to pass to side control.
Banks tries to stand and escape but Jones is controlling the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones is looking to improve his position.
Banks tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Jones.
Banks content to control rather than advance.
Banks has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Banks stuffs the takedown.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jones is defended easily by Banks.
Jones shoots in for a double leg but Banks sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Donny Banks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nathan Jones.
Jones tries for a takedown but Banks sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Banks drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Banks thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Banks with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Banks decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Jones tries to keep at a distance but Banks has taken the fight into the clinch.
Jones misses with some punches.

Banks has Jones pressed against the cage, preventing Jones from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Banks pulls Jones into guard.
Banks throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Jones throws a big right hand that misses.

Banks has his feet on Jones's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Banks throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Jones tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Banks is in Jones's guard.

Banks decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but Banks shows good takedown defense.

Banks shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jones's guard.

Banks chips away with some ground and pound.
Banks lands a couple of digs.
Banks is working Jones over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Banks stands up and waves to Jones to follow him.

Banks closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Jones quickly recovers to half guard.

Banks is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jones defends it well.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Banks seems to be working for a kimura but Jones defends the submission attempt.
Donny Banks overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Banks takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Jones is looking for a sweep. Banks is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Jones fails with the takedown

and Banks decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Jones's guard.

Jones wriggles free and stands up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jones fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Banks, pushing him back against the cage.

Banks breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Jones closes the distance and clinches.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Banks pulls guard effortlessly.
Jones throws a strike but Banks rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Banks sitting in guard here, content to control.
Jones working a defensive guard here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Banks is in close to Jones's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Banks controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Banks got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jones has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Banks has managed to get both his arms back between Jones's legs - danger averted.
Jones controls Banks momentarily but Banks frees himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Banks landing with the ground and pound.
Banks controlling from the top position.
Banks sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Jones's guard.

Banks is looking for a kimura here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Banks wants to work for an arm triangle but Jones is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!
Donny Banks showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Banks, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
