The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hood moves into range and clinches up with Waid.

Waid has picked Hood up - he's going for a ride! Waid dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Waid is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Waid takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hood with the active half guard here but Waid passes nicely into side control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Waid throws his legs up looking for a submission but Hood uses it to pass to side control.

Waid is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Hood is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Waid is just riding it out for now. Hood eventually gives up the hold.

Hood shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Waid pinned against the cage. Waid gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Hood moves in looking to clinch but Waid pushes him off.

Waid will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Waid landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Waid is looking to advance position but Hood won't allow it.

Waid is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hood defends it well.

Hood looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Waid is fending him off so far but Hood persists. Nope, Waid circles away and we're back to standing.
