PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Magomedrasul Hasbullaev (ranked 24929 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kyong Li (ranked 22506 p4p, 0 weight class). Li has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Magomedrasul Hasbullaev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kyong Li!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Li fails with a takedown attempt.
Li shoots in for a double leg but Hasbullaev sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Hasbullaev tries to counter by clinching up but Li breaks away and moves out of range.
Li tries for a takedown but Hasbullaev circles away easily
letting Hasbullaev counter with a right hand.
Magomedrasul Hasbullaev has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kyong Li.
Li looks winded!

Hasbullaev dives in and scores a takedown into Li's guard.
Hasbullaev controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Hasbullaev seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Li for as long as he can get away with.
Li looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hasbullaev is one step ahead there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Li is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Hasbullaev is working Li over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Hasbullaev controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Hasbullaev has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Li escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hasbullaev gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hasbullaev forces his way into half guard.

Hasbullaev looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Hasbullaev has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Hasbullaev keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Li.
Li shoots in looking for a takedown. Hasbullaev tries to sprawl out of it but Li keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hasbullaev manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Hasbullaev throws a right and a left that both miss.

Hasbullaev closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Li did well to prevent Hasbullaev getting side control.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hasbullaev connects with a nice short shot to Li's temple.

Hasbullaev seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Li is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hasbullaev pulls his head out easily.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Hasbullaev stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Li to get to his feet.
Hasbullaev misses with a body shot.

Hasbullaev rushes Li and presses him up against the cage.

Hasbullaev pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Li is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hasbullaev defends well.
Hasbullaev has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Li is proving hard to escape from.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hasbullaev stands up over Li, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Hasbullaev controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Hasbullaev closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Hasbullaev is taking a breather. Li says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Hasbullaev is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Li has managed to free his arm - good work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Li looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Hasbullaev looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Li tries to roll over but Hasbullaev keeps him under control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hasbullaev drops an elbow to the side of Li's head.
Hasbullaev lands with a punch from half guard.
Hasbullaev is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Hasbullaev's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Hasbullaev wants to lay and pray for a moment but Li keeps working.
Hasbullaev stops Li from getting back to his feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Hasbullaev throws a half hearted mid kick.

Hasbullaev has hold of one of Li's legs. Li is fighting the takedown attempt but Hasbullaev gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Hasbullaev distracts Li with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Hasbullaev decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Li, up you get!
Hasbullaev throws a leg kick but Li sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Li looks like he's trying to stand up.
Li flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Hasbullaev knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Li on the ground.
Li throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Hasbullaev is nestled in close to Li, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Hasbullaev is pressing down on Li's thigh, looking to free his foot. Li is holding on for now.

Hasbullaev is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Li is just riding it out for now. Hasbullaev eventually gives up the hold.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Li wants to improve his position but Hasbullaev is controlling well.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Li has a takedown stuffed.

Hasbullaev shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hasbullaev was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Hasbullaev wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Li, who protects the arm well.
Hasbullaev tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Li tries to strike but it doesn't land.
Li seems to have recovered his senses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hasbullaev is looking to take a break and control but Li is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Li takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hasbullaev tries to advance to mount but can't.
Hasbullaev lands some shots froms side control.
Li is trying to get back to half guard.
Hasbullaev connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Li some visible discomfort.

Hasbullaev tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Li tries to escape but Hasbullaev is in control.
Hasbullaev wants to stand but Li has his arm trapped.
Hasbullaev wants to lay and pray for a moment but Li keeps working.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hasbullaev tries to move to mount but Li blocks the move with his legs.

Hasbullaev thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Hasbullaev decides to stand back up.

Li gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Hasbullaev controls from within his opponent's guard.

Li is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hasbullaev defends well.

Li throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hasbullaev remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Li is trying to improve his position.

Hasbullaev tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hasbullaev has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Hasbullaev looks up at the clock and then as Li takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Hasbullaev smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Kyong Li has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Li wants to get back to his feet.
Hasbullaev tries to stand but Li is controlling his head.
Magomedrasul Hasbullaev is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

And that's the end of the fight!
Magomedrasul Hasbullaev showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Hasbullaev has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
