Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Julian Mathews (ranked 5122 p4p, 496 weight class) and John Kempt (ranked 5074 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Julian Mathews!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John Kempt!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Taro Takaoka and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mathews tries for a takedown but Kempt circles away easily

and Kempt counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Kempt is pressed up against the cage. Mathews has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Kempt down to the mat. Kempt avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Kempt closes the distance and pushes Mathews back into the cage.

Mathews tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Kempt shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mathews sprawls well. Mathews wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kempt gets slowly back to his feet.

Mathews catches Kempt with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

That was a close round but I would say that Julian Mathews will probably get the nod.

Kempt working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mathews doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mathews manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kempt can do anything to dispel that myth.
Mathews wants to get up but he can't break Kempt's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mathews, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
