PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kasey Scorpion (ranked 91 p4p, 10 weight class) and Pekka Pera (ranked 109 p4p, 12 weight class). Scorpion comes into the arena with Jiu Jitsu blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kasey Scorpion!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pekka Pera!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scorpion catches Pera with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Pera misses with an uppercut. Scorpion saw that one coming.
Scorpion lands with a right hand.
Pera dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Pera takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Scorpion thuds a left hand into Pera's body.
Kasey Scorpion seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pera avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Scorpion keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Pera tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Scorpion paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Pera can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Scorpion controls the pace.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Pera is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Scorpion rather than just go for the knockout.

Scorpion really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Kasey Scorpion has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pekka Pera.

Scorpion is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Pera lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Scorpion was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kasey Scorpion dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Scorpion lands with a hook. Pera tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Scorpion slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Pera throws the left hand but Scorpion avoids the punch easily.
Scorpion uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Pera has time to react.
Pera turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Scorpion throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Pera tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Scorpion is in Pera's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pera tries to land a leg kick but Scorpion saw it coming and moves away.

Scorpion fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Pera on the side of the head.
Pera has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.

Scorpion thuds his right hand into Pera's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Scorpion is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Scorpion ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Scorpion swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Pera flicks out a counter leg kick but Scorpion steps away.

Pera shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Scorpion's guard.

Scorpion has his foot on Pera's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pera works his way back into a safe position though.

Scorpion has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Pera is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Scorpion.

Pera lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Scorpion down.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

and Scorpion counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Scorpion takes a swing at Pera's ribcage but misses.
And Pera tries to counter it with a takedown but Scorpion pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Scorpion drops his hands momentarily and Pera takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Pera tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Scorpion manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Scorpion dives in for a single leg takedown but Pera sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Scorpion throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Scorpion closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Pera's guard.
Pera is adopting a defensive guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pera is on top in guard.


Scorpion had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Pera defends it easily.

Pera is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Pera perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Pera might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Scorpion haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Pekka Pera has got the better of the ground game so far.

Scorpion regains full guard. Nicely done.

Pera stands up over Scorpion, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Scorpion is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Pera is aware though and is defending well.

Pera wants to pass the guard but Scorpion is keeping the position.
Pera connects with a couple of short punches.
Pera slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Scorpion sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Pera is keen to just control but Scorpion is a slippery customer.
Pera slips a nice elbow through Scorpion's hands, connecting with Scorpion's forehead.
Scorpion wants to improve his position but Pera is controlling well.

Scorpion is trying to maintain the position but Pera is very close to passing his half guard.
Pera landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Pera connects with a nice short shot to Scorpion's temple.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Pekka Pera comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Scorpion has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
