PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bret Lane (ranked 24969 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fighter One (ranked 5076 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bret Lane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Fighter One!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

One feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
One is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
One stopping the sweep attempt from Lane.

One gets to his feet. Lane looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

One is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Lane's half guard.
One stalling.
Lane might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
It looks like One might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lane on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Lane flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
One throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

One is looking for a kimura but Lane is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for One to get the leverage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lane blocking the ground and pound attempt from One.
Still in half guard, One seems content to control.

Lane is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but One pulls his head out easily.
One is looking to advance position but Lane won't allow it.
One uses his free foot to push down on Lane's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Lane.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
One punching from mount but Lane doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Lane is looking to get to half guard.
One throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Lane because One loaded up on that one.
Lane looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!

One working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
One misses with an elbow to the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lane tries to roll but One sticks to his back.
Lane is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
One controlling well, preventing Lane from escaping the position.
Lane is trying to get back to his feet but One has full control of the position and if anything, Lane has just worked his way into a worse spot.
One keeps control of the position easily here as Lane tries to buck him off.
One's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Lane defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of One's arms.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Lane tries to escape the position.
Lane is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by One.

One working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
One thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fighter One dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



One manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Lane on his heels. He'll look to pass Lane's guard now, I'm sure.
Lane bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in One's guard.

Lane wants to control from the top but One keeps moving.
One throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Lane scoring with some ground and pound.
Lane trying to control but One is working from the bottom.
Fighter One has got the better of the ground game so far.
One preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
One is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
One has momentary wrist control but Lane slips an elbow through the middle.
One wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Lane trying to control the position from guard on top but One is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

One is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lane defends well.
Lane really is a fat lump.
Lane is fighting to break One's control of his arms but One is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

One is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Lane is aware though and is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now One is on top in guard.

Lane lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Lane with a flurry of punches that miss.

Lane wants to stand and escape but instead One has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Lane throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
One has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
One throws a big right hand that misses.
One passes into half guard.
One is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
One tries to pass the half guard into mount. Lane knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

One controlling the action here.
One has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Lane is looking to get to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Lane is working hard here to advance position.
One looking to control and managing it successfully.
Lane wants to try and get back to his feet.
One tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Fighter One showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Lane throws a jab but it's blocked by One.
One lands a slapping body shot.
Lane moves out of range of the body kick from One.
One lunges at Lane with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Lane's hand.

Lane gets tackled into the cage by One. One maintains the clinch.
One is pressed up against the cage. Lane has hold of a leg and is looking to drag One down to the mat. One avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
One tries a head kick but it misses.

One scores with a takedown into Lane's guard.

Lane is looking to sweep but instead, One has passed into half guard.
One moves nicely into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lane gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

One decides to stand up.

One forces Lane back against the cage and clinches.
Lane tries to pull guard but One holds him up against the cage and eventually Lane drops back down to his feet.

Lane breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Lane tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but One paws at him with a jab and circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lane takes a swing at One's ribcage but misses.
Lane shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bret Lane. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

One scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
One remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
One postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
One controlling from side mount.
Lane is looking for a sweep.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

One decides to stand back up.

One gets in close and instigates a clinch.

One has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Lane uses from the top position.
One pulls Lane in close to his closed guard and prevents Lane from doing any damage or advancing position.

One is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Lane presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
One can't break the clinch.

Lane breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

One fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Lane sprawls well initially but One persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Lane scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but One manages to mount him!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Poor strikes thrown by One there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
One throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

One moves to take his opponent's back.
One controlling the position well here. Lane rolled but One kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Fighter One comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well One has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
