PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ken Ferrera (ranked 5331 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Gregory (ranked 5068 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ken Ferrera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, George Gregory!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Sam Margolis and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ferrera feints and as Gregory raises his hands in defense, Ferrera changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Gregory is looking to stand back up but Ferrera counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Gregory.

Ferrera not doing much here.
Ferrera's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ferrera decides to return to a standing position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Ferrera checks a leg kick.

Ferrera shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Gregory is looking to escape.
Ferrera looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Ferrera seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Gregory is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Ferrera is taking a breather. Gregory says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Ferrera is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gregory is just riding it out for now. Ferrera eventually gives up the hold.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gregory is trying to escape back to his feet but Ferrera uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Gregory really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ferrera. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Gregory is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Ferrera asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Gregory is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Ferrera has just dragged him back down to the mat.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Gregory throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ferrera.
Ferrera attempts a counter takedown but Gregory avoids it well and moves away.
Gregory looks winded!

Ferrera shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Gregory is looking to get back to is feet but Ferrera passes into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken Ferrera dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Ferrera is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gregory can do to turn this around?

Gregory gets caught napping as Ferrera dives in and scores a takedown. Gregory manages to retain guard.

Gregory manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Gregory misses with the body kick

and Ferrera counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Ferrera.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ferrera tries to pull guard but Gregory forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Gregory's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Ferrera lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Ferrera gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Gregory lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Ferrera at a distance.

Ferrera closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Gregory has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ferrera has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Gregory avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Ferrera breaks the clinch.

Ferrera fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Gregory sprawls well initially but Ferrera persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Gregory is breathing heavily.
Ferrera is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Gregory!
Ferrera lands a big elbow.
Ferrera scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Ferrera is working for a guillotine from mount but Gregory frees his head quite easily.
Ferrera controlling the position easily from mount.

Ferrera lands a big elbow.
Ferrera tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gregory is trying to stand up.
Gregory is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Ferrera has taken his back!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ferrera is cranking Gregory's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Gregory! He's tightened the choke and Gregory is tapping out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ken Ferrera!
