Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Awut Smith (ranked 2533 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo Silva (ranked 3750 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith comes to the cage accompanied by Ladies and Gentlemen. Silva has chosen Roots Bloody Roots - Sepultura as his entrance music. Smith has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Alexandre Firmino and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith connects with a single shot there.
Smith is breathing heavily.
Silva blocks a jab.
Rodrigo Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Silva goes for a double leg but Smith avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Smith continues to drive forward.
Smith misses with a body shot.
Smith throws the left hand but Silva avoids the punch easily.
Silva staying out of range there.
Silva misses with an uppercut.
Silva is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Silva tries to close the distance and clinch but Smith swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Silva fails in his attempt to clinch.
Silva moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.
Silva takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Silva gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Smith counters with a stiff right hand.

As Silva looks to move away, Smith throws a big counter combo but Silva just gets out of the way.
Silva takes one to the side of the head.
Silva lands with a slapping head kick.
Awut Smith's cut is getting worse.

Silva throws a head kick but Smith moves out of range.
Silva throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Smith's waist but Smith gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Silva off to one side.
Awut Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rodrigo Silva.
Silva looks to land a combination but Smith avoids it well.
Smith lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Silva misses with a double jab.
Smith half committed to a counter leg kick.
Silva is looking to clinch.
Smith takes a swing at Silva's ribcage but misses.
A little jabbing left from Silva on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Silva doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Silva fails with a takedown attempt.

Smith connects with a single shot there.
Silva is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Smith.
Silva tries to clinch
and Smith connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Silva tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Smith counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Silva tries to clinch but Smith is having none of it.
Silva doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Smith counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smith showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Silva.
Silva tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Smith manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Silva throws a right hand that Smith ducks under and follows up with a left that Smith also avoids with ease.
Silva bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith is trying to get back to his feet.
Silva working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Silva lands a nice forearm strike.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Silva is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Smith is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Silva has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Smith is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Silva yanks on the arm and Smith is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Silva.

After winning the bout, Rodrigo Silva thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
