Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lyman Barrett (ranked 6570 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hunter Goethals (ranked 6976 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goethals tries to clinch but Barrett moves out of range.

Goethals pushes Barrett up against the cage in a clinch.
Barrett has had enough of the clinch but Goethals keeps him there for the moment.

Barrett pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
The fighters circle momentarily. Barrett darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Barrett lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Goethals circles away quickly and effectively.

Goethals shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Goethals showed some decent athleticism there.

Goethals is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Goethals in particular looking to stall.

Goethals looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Barrett bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Goethals's guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Goethals has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Barrett has passed into side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Goethals can do anything to dispel that myth.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Goethals cracks a nice hook into Barrett's ribs.
Barrett shoots in looking for a takedown. Goethals tries to sprawl out of it but Barrett keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Goethals manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Goethals throws a solid leg kick but Barrett takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Goethals.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Goethals shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Barrett as he jumps to the side.
Barrett tries to clinch there but Goethals circles away.
Goethals will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Goethals throws a head kick but Barrett moves out of range.
Barrett looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Barrett jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Barrett gets tackled into the cage by Goethals. Goethals maintains the clinch.
Barrett tries to work over Goethals's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Goethals tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Barrett avoids it.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Barrett.
Goethals gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Barrett.
Barrett has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Goethals is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Goethals breaks the clinch.

Goethals looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Goethals seems to be working for a kimura but Barrett defends the submission attempt.

Goethals seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Barrett really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Goethals takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
