Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jae Howell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Leonel Marshall!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Seu Braga and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marshall turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Howell moves into the clinch successfully.
Marshall fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Howell tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Marshall just stands there and leans against the cage.
Marshall has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Howell is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Howell pulls guard effortlessly.
Marshall throws an elbow that misses. Howell uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Marshall's guard. Nice move by Howell!

Marshall wants to hit a switch here but Howell passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Marshall there!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marshall is trying desperately to improve position.

Howell throws a wild left hand from mount and Marshall manages to wriggle his way back to half guard.

Howell is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Marshall doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Howell.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Marshall is looking for a sweep. Howell is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Marshall keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Marshall wants to get back to full guard.
Marshall trying to control but Howell postures up.

Howell is working for a kimura but Marshall is defending it quite comfortably.

Marshall utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Howell is looking to work some ground and pound but Marshall has wrist control.
Howell has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Howell slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Marshall circles away from the clinch attempt.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Howell closes the distance and pushes Marshall back into the cage.
Come on Howell - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Marshall tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Jae Howell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Leonel Marshall.
Marshall tries to pull guard but Howell holds him up against the cage and eventually Marshall drops back down to his feet.
Howell tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Marshall's elbow.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Marshall throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Howell's waist but Howell gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Marshall off to one side.
Howell looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Marshall is fending him off so far but Howell persists. Nope, Marshall circles away and we're back to standing.

Howell closes the distance and clinches.
Marshall goes for a takedown attempt but Howell pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Howell wants to clinch up but Marshall keeps it at a distance.
Howell avoids the body shot from Marshall.

Marshall tries to score a body lock takedown but Howell shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Howell ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Howell no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Howell jumps guard but Marshall turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Howell tries to score a body lock takedown but Marshall shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

We've been informed that Marshall has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Marshall fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Howell manages to avoid it.

and Marshall counters with an inside leg kick.
Marshall tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Howell defends well and Marshall ends up having to push Howell into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Howell's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Howell tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Marshall smiles and moves away.
Marshall connects with a leg kick. Howell looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Howell shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Howell showed some decent athleticism there.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Howell, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
