PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Randy Miller (ranked 1185 p4p, 165 weight class) and Lyoto Yoshida (ranked 2221 p4p, 266 weight class). Miller comes to the cage accompanied by Who Was In My Room Last Night by Butthole Surfers. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Randy Miller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lyoto Yoshida!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Eddie Farnsworth and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yoshida takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Miller connects with the punch.
Miller has been working on his boxing with his coaches at 3Band MMA ($800/week) in the buildup to the fight.
Miller moves out of range of the strikes.
Yoshida looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Yoshida drives through and clinches with Miller against the cage.
Miller has Yoshida pushed against the cage.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Miller pushes off an throws an elbow but Yoshida leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Miller throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Yoshida blocks it with crossed arms.
Miller lands a left hand.
Yoshida throws a punch but it's blocked by Miller.
Yoshida takes an elbow to the temple.


It looks like Lyoto Yoshida has been cut.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Yoshida.
Yoshida changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Miller fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Yoshida tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A jab from Miller finds it's way through Yoshida's defenses.
Randy Miller seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Miller throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Yoshida on the side of the head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Miller scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Yoshida fails with a takedown attempt.
Miller is looking for a counter combo.

Miller throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Miller feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Yoshida's calf.
Yoshida takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Randy Miller is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Yoshida ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Miller uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Yoshida swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Nice uppercut there from Miller.
Miller throws a head kick that misses.
Yoshida misses with an uppercut.
Yoshida throws a lazy uppercut
and Miller cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Miller throws the left hand but Yoshida avoids the punch easily.
Yoshida thows a left - swing and a miss!
Miller lands a slapping body shot.
Nice jab there from Miller.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Yoshida tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Yoshida shoots in and drives through. Miller sprawls well.
Randy Miller has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lyoto Yoshida.
Yoshida bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Miller is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.

Yoshida drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yoshida trying to control the position from guard on top but Miller is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Miller wants to get back to his feet but Yoshida is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Miller wants to sweep but no luck.
Yoshida slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Miller might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Yoshida won't allow Miller to sweep him here.
Miller wants to stand but Yoshida is controlling the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Miller is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Yoshida.
Yoshida dives in and grabs Miller's left leg, looking for a takedown. Miller pushes down on Yoshida's head and hops out.
Miller uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Miller fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
A big left from Miller misses.

Yoshida closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Yoshida lands in his opponent's guard.
Miller tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Miller has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Yoshida has passed into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Miller tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Yoshida scores with a couple of short elbows.
Yoshida taking a breather here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
It looks like Yoshida might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Yoshida is looking to take a break and control but Miller is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Yoshida in side control, throwing shots but Miller defends.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Randy Miller dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Lyoto Yoshida's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Miller paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Miller feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Yoshidas jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Miller lands a jab.


Yoshida is rocked!

Miller has managed to clinch.
Yoshida is still on wobbly legs! Can Miller finish him?
Clinched against the cage, Miller lands a big elbow that drops Yoshida! The ref dives in to save him from more shots - Yoshida is complaining that he's OK but he was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Randy Miller!
A very excited looking Randy Miller made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
