PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between William Wallace (ranked 590 p4p, 89 weight class) and Jake The Dog (ranked 1076 p4p, 152 weight class). The Dog comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Meditation Time kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, William Wallace!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jake The Dog!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Chris Saunders and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The Dog throws an off balance right hand

and Wallace counters with a crisp one two that drops The Dog! Wallace thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves The Dog to his feet! The Dog is in big trouble!
Wallace ducks under a wild hook from The Dog.
The Dog misses with a body shot.
Wallace was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that The Dog has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
The Dog throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Wallace avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

and The Dog counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The Dog tries to free his leg and advance position but Wallace is retaining full guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as The Dog accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The Dog throws an elbow that misses. Wallace uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in The Dog's guard. Nice move by Wallace!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The Dog has control of Wallace's left arm, preventing Wallace from doing any damage.
Wallace is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The Dog has his foot on Wallace's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wallace works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

enabling Wallace to counter with a crisp jab.


It looks like Jake The Dog has been cut.

Wallace uses good head movement to avoid the hook from The Dog.
As The Dog looks to move away, Wallace throws a big counter combo but The Dog just gets out of the way.
Wallace avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
William Wallace is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The Dog punishes Wallace's body with a nice straight punch.
The Dog throws a shot from downtown. Wallace moves away and avoids it.
The Dog feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Wallaces jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
A decent looking cross lands there for The Dog.

Wallace throws a body punch but The Dog moves out of range.

The Dog closes this distance looking for a takedown but Wallace circles away.

The Dog tries to clinch but Wallace is having none of it.
A slow jab from Wallace misses its intended target.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The Dog stuns Wallace with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

The Dog lands with a straight right. Wallace didn't see that one coming.

The Dog pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
The Dog cracks a nice hook into Wallace's ribs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The Dog slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Oh Wallace is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The Dog throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Wallace works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Wallace is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Wallace seems to have got his legs back now.
The Dog is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The Dog throws a strike but Wallace rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The Dog wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Wallace utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The Dog pulls Wallace in close to prevent any damage.
The Dog is continuing to stall.

Wallace knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for The Dog on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The Dog throws a strike but Wallace rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Wallace goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

and Wallace counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
The Dog fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Wallace uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from The Dog.
Wallace is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
The Dog lands with an uppercut that bounces Wallace off the cage and back into range.
We've been told by Wallace's head coaches at Rabid Dog that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
The Dog tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Wallace paws at him with a jab and circles away.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The Dog tests Wallace's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Wallace takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Jab, jab by The Dog - just one landing.
Wallace ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jake The Dog comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well The Dog has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In his post fight interview, Jake The Dog started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
