PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Zane Mason (ranked 261 p4p, 36 weight class) and Roy Batty (ranked 437 p4p, 63 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Batty's choice of entrance music: I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.... I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 47 - 25 - 1, fighting out of New York, Zane Mason!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roy Batty!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Batty has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Mason finds it's way round the side to connect with Batty's head.
Batty catches Mason with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Batty throws a lazy head kick
and Mason counters with a right hand to the body.
A jab lands there for Batty.
Batty connects with a nice looking jab.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Batty has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Mason throws a right and a left that Batty avoids nicely.
Batty just misses with a punch to the body.
Mason moves out of range as Batty strikes.
And Mason counters with a quick kick to the body but Batty blocks it.
Batty tries to close the distance and clinch but Mason swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Mason swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Mason looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Mason will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Batty throws a low kick, looking for Mason's leg but Mason calmly moves out of range.
Batty lands a jab.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Batty moves in looking to clinch but Mason pushes him off.
Batty looks to land a right hand but Mason moved out of range.

and Mason counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Batty fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mason, pushing him back against the cage.

Mason swings wildly with an uppercut but Batty uses good head movement to avoid it.

A left hand lands to the body for Mason.
Mason lands with a short head shot on the inside.

Mason is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Mason escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

The crowd cheers as Mason lands an impressive looking overhand right. Batty doesn't seem phased though.

Mason swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Batty dodges the punch combination from Mason.
A little jabbing left from Batty on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Mason moves out of range of the strikes.
Mason swings for the body but Batty moves out of range.
Mason fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Mason stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Batty.
A big right from Mason misses.
Batty now looks to counter with a shot at the body.

Batty clinches with his opponent.
Mason wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Mason.
Batty stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Batty scores with a shoulder strike.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Batty.
Batty lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Mason or not.
Mason blocking some punches.
Mason blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Batty tries to work over Mason's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Batty keeps control of Mason as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Batty blocks an uppercut.
Batty lands a hook to the side of the head.
Batty has a couple of punches blocked by Mason.
Batty swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Batty as Mason tries to tie him up.
Mason lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Batty backwards.

Batty stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Mason blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Batty misses with a punch to the body.
Batty keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Mason's efforts to push away.
A nice right hand lands inside from Batty.
Mason tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
A head punch on the inside from Batty fails to land.
Batty tries a body shot but Mason blocks it.

Mason's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Batty wants to clinch up but Mason keeps it at a distance.
Mason looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Batty thows a left - swing and a miss!

Batty has managed to clinch.
Batty drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Batty fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Mason breaks the clinch.

Batty closes the distance and clinches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Batty misses with the head strike.

Mason breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Batty avoids the body shot from Mason.
Batty is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Batty throws a looping overhand right but Mason ducks down to avoid it.

A lazy left from Mason finds it's target.
Mason is looking to land body kicks.
Mason moves forwards but Batty connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Mason throws a poor cross that misses
and Batty connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Mason throws a leg kick but Batty moved away.
Batty misses with a looping left.
Mason pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mason tries a head kick but it misses.

Batty moves into the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Batty misses with some punches.

Batty wants a takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Roy Batty will probably get the nod.

Mason steps in with a hook that catches Batty right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Mason follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Batty looks absolutely devastated.
