PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ed Erickson (ranked 4784 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mason Foster (ranked 24983 p4p, 0 weight class). Erickson has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Ed Erickson has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ed Erickson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mason Foster!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Foster lands a two punch combo.
Foster lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Erickson tries to clinch there but Foster circles away.
Foster throws a right hand that Erickson ducks under and follows up with a left that Erickson also avoids with ease.
Foster will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Good work by Erickson as he checks the leg kick.

Erickson pushes Foster up against the cage in a clinch.
Foster wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Foster is trying to break free.
Erickson tries to circle away but Foster has him pinned against the cage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Foster escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Erickson shoots in but Foster avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Erickson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Foster's waist but Foster gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Erickson off to one side.
We've been informed that Foster has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Erickson tries to close the distance and clinch but Foster swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Foster shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Erickson pinned against the cage. Erickson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Foster shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Erickson sprawls well. Erickson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Foster gets slowly back to his feet.

Mason Foster seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Erickson has taken the fight to the clinch.
Foster can't break the clinch.
Foster gets underhooks to prevent Erickson's takedown attempt.

Foster shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Foster showed some decent athleticism there.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Foster is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Let's hope that Foster has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Foster throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Erickson takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Ed Erickson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Foster bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Erickson's head backwards.
Foster throws a series of punches but Erickson avoids them all with ease.
Erickson tries for a takedown but Foster sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Erickson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Erickson wants it to stay on the feet.
