PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Boogie Rollins (ranked 1855 p4p, 251 weight class) and Josey Wales (ranked 1425 p4p, 208 weight class). Rollins comes to the cage accompanied by Fish Fight- King Khan and BBQ Show. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Boogie Rollins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Josey Wales!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, John Kavanagh and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rollins lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Wales misses with a straight left.
Rollins shoots in but no luck this time.
Wales blocks a jab.
Wales stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Wales wants it to stay on the feet.
Rollins throws a hook but Wales blocks it.
Wales scores with a jab.
The fighters circling - Wales throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Rollins misses with a left hand
and Wales counters with a nice uppercut.
Wales throws an off balance right hand

and Rollins counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Wales wants to sweep here but Rollins controlling him for the moment.
Wales wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rollins wants to pass the guard but Wales is keeping the position.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Wales holds on and takes a little breather.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rollins accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Wales looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rollins is one step ahead there.
Rollins slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Wales is trying to keep Rollins in close.
Rollins is fighting to break Wales's control of his arms but Wales is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rollins looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rollins misses with a double jab.
A big right from Wales misses.
Wales misses with a looping left.
Rollins drops down looking for a counter takedown but Wales sprawls and moves away.

and Wales counters with a straight right hand.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Boogie Rollins. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wales bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Rollins tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Wales was well out of range. Poor timing from Rollins.
Wales ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Wales is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Rollins.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Rollins.
Wales tries to bench press Rollins off him but Rollins keeps the position.

Wales takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Rollins trying to control the action but Wales is working from the bottom.
Rollins in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Wales is pushing Rollins's head away, looking to escape. Rollins manages to hold on to the position though.
The ground and pound from Rollins seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Rollins is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Wales is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Wales tries to improve position but can't.
Wales can't do much from the bottom here.
Rollins misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Wales is not content to let Rollins control the position.
Wales is trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Josey Wales will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Wales drops his hands momentarily and Rollins takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Rollins looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Boogie Rollins overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Rollins is trying to work for a kimura but Wales is defending well.
Rollins is thwarting Wales's attempts to control the position.
Wales is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Rollins working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Rollins seems to be working for a kimura but Wales defends the submission attempt.
Rollins trying to control the action but Wales is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wales keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Wales wants to control but Rollins is keeping busy.
Wales felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Rollins winds up and cracks Wales with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Wales won't allow Rollins to pass to mount.

Rollins is trying to control the action in half guard but Wales is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Rollins keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Wales throws an overhand right that lands on Rollins's shoulder, as Rollins tries to avoid the shot.
Rollins moves away from the strike by Wales.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Boogie Rollins dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Wales throws a body punch but Rollins moves out of range.
Rollins fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Wales looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
The fighters circling - Wales throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Rollins bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Rollins throws a strike aimed at the side of Wales's head but Wales avoids it well.
Wales tries to buck Rollins off but Rollins is having none of it.
Sloppy strikes there by Rollins.
Rollins gets to mount! Wales was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Rollins fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Wales is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Rollins has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Wales's face.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rollins scoring with strikes but Wales is staying in there.
Rollins lands with some strikes.
Wales gets back to half guard.

Rollins is working for a submission of some sort.
Wales is holding on to half guard well.
Rollins wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wales keeps working.
Wales trying to control here.

Rollins prevents Wales from improving his position.
Wales is refusing to be controlled, as Rollins sits in half guard.
Rollins is controlling the pace.
Wales gets back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Wales keeping full guard, as Rollins tries to pass.

Wales is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Wales is on top in guard.

Wales is looking to advance position but Rollins has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Wales doing his best to control the position. Can he escape?
Rollins misses with some ground and pound and Wales recovers position to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Boogie Rollins.
I think Rollins has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
