PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dutch Schultz (ranked 1468 p4p, 192 weight class) and Jeremy Sullivan (ranked 390 p4p, 54 weight class). Jeremy Sullivan is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dutch Schultz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 20 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jeremy Sullivan!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, George Francis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schultz swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Schultz throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Sullivan sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Sullivan tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Schultz lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Schultz misses with a kick to the body.
Sullivan takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Schultz tries to land a front kick but Sullivan steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Schultz misses with a straight left.
Sullivan drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Schultz defends it well.
Schultz paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Sullivan is looking to clinch but Schultz is avoiding it.
Schultz scores with a jab to the jaw.
Schultz is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sullivan shoots in for a double leg but Schultz sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sullivan drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sullivan jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Sullivan goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Schultz has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Sullivan but great work by Schultz.

Sullivan tries to reverse the position but Schultz maintains control.

Schultz tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.

Sullivan is looking for a sweep. Schultz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Sullivan keeps trying to improve his position.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Sullivan is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Schultz still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Schultz has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Sullivan has gone for a leg lock! Schultz slips out almost immediately though and dives into Sullivan's guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Sullivan is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Schultz defends well.
Schultz wants to stand but Sullivan has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Sullivan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Schultz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Sullivan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Sullivan throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Schultz escapes and throws Sullivan's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Dutch Schultz is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Sullivan manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Schultz wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Sullivan uses the opportunity to regain full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Schultz wants to stand and escape but instead Sullivan has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Jeremy Sullivan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Schultz wants to get back to his feet but Sullivan drags him back down.

Sullivan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sullivan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Sullivan slows the pace down.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dutch Schultz.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Schultz, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
