PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lakoj Dresden (ranked 1622 p4p, 224 weight class) and Karl Karlsson (ranked 2569 p4p, 329 weight class). Karlsson has chosen 300 Violin Orchestra as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lakoj Dresden!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Karl Karlsson!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Illya Tyunina and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karlsson swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Dresden.
A looping hook to the body misses from Dresden. Karlsson does a little dance to reset his feet.
Dresden sizes up Karlsson with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Karlsson throws out a leg kick but Dresden moves out of range and Karlsson only half commits.
Karlsson misses with a body shot
and Dresden counters with a left and a right that stings Karlsson.

Dresden clinches up with Karlsson and pushes him back against the cage.

Dresden tightens his grip and picks Karlsson up, before dumping him to the ground. Karlsson manages to land in guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Dresden lands a couple of digs.
Dresden stopping the sweep attempt from Karlsson.
Dresden pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Karlsson is keeping the position for now.
Dresden might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Karlsson wants to get back to his feet but Dresden is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Dresden throws a strike but Karlsson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Karlsson would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Dresden wants to sweep here but Karlsson controlling him for the moment.
Dresden pulls Karlsson in close to prevent any damage.
Dresden tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Karlsson is fighting to break Dresden's control of his arms but Dresden is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Dresden looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Karlsson gets to his feet - Dresden follows without any prompting.
Karlsson stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Karlsson throws a right and a left that both miss.
Dresden throwing a counter right hand but Karlsson manages to avoid it.
Karlsson throws a combination that misses
and Dresden counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Karlsson finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Dresden scores with the left hand. Karlsson knows he should have avoided that one.
Dresden on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Karlsson misses with a leg kick

and Dresden counters with a nice double leg into side control. Karlsson won't be happy with that.
Dresden is looking to take a break and control but Karlsson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Karlsson takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Karlsson wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dresden moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Karlsson pushes Dresden away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Dresden gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Dresden tries to score with some ground and pound. Karlsson controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Dresden is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Karlsson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Karlsson is pushing Dresden's head away, looking to escape. Dresden manages to hold on to the position though.

Karlsson throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Dresden takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Karl Karlsson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dresden moves in looking to clinch but Karlsson pushes him off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Lakoj Dresden will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Dresden has taken the fight to the clinch.
Dresden drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Karlsson gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Dresden tries for a takedown. No joy.
Dresden tries to score a body lock takedown but Karlsson shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lakoj Dresden. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Karlsson prevents a takedown attempt there.

Karlsson manages to break the clinch.
Dresden tries to clinch there but Karlsson circles away.
Decent striking displayed by Karlsson there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dresden looks to score with a jab to the body but Karlsson is just out of range.
Dresden moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Karlsson lands a big head kick that sends Dresden tumbling to the mat! Karlsson takes a step backwards and waves Dresden back to his feet - he wants the finish!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Dresden has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Karlsson finds it's way round the side to connect with Dresden's head.


Dresden is rocked!

Dresden closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Dresden fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Karlsson breaks from the clinch.
Karlsson connects with a single shot there.
Karlsson lands with a nice body punch.
Karlsson throws a sloppy head kick and Dresden moves out of range easily.
A punch combination from Karlsson misses.
Karlsson connects with a nice looking jab.
Karlsson swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Dresden counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Karlsson dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Karlsson circles away from the clinch attempt.
Karlsson looks to land a body kick but Dresden moved away.
Dresden is looking to counter punch.
Karlsson has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Karlsson keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Dresden.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Karlsson scores with a spinning back kick!
Dresden walks forward, straight into a front kick from Karlsson.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Karlsson misses with a head kick.
A quick step to the side and Dresden tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Dresden moves into the clinch.
Karlsson working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Karlsson prevents the takedown attempt.

Dresden works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Karlsson wants to stand up but Dresden is controlling him.
Dresden sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Karlsson's guard.

Dresden perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Dresden thows a huge punch but Karlsson dodges it nicely.

Karlsson tries to kick Dresden off but Dresden keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Dresden is looking for a kimura here.
Dresden is looking to advance position but Karlsson won't allow it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Dresden is looking to take a break and control but Karlsson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Karlsson falls off balance throwing a combination
and Dresden counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Lakoj Dresden is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Dresden fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Karlsson to the ground. Dresden is now in Karlsson's guard.

Dresden is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Karlsson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Karlsson has escaped and now he's on top!

Karlsson wants to stand but Dresden has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Karl Karlsson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Sloppy strikes from Karlsson. Those never looked like landing.
Dresden swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Karlsson lets loose with a powerful body kick. Dresden will feel that in the morning.
Dresden ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Karlsson moves away.
Karlsson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Karlsson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Dresden tries to close the distance and clinch up but Karlsson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Karlsson swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Karlsson connects with a leg kick. Dresden looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Dresden keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dresden throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Dresden throws a series of strikes that have Karlsson backpedaling.
Karlsson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Dresden is looking to counter the offense by Karlsson and move into the clinch.
Karl Karlsson seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Karlsson moves into range and connects with a jab.

Dresden takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Karlsson is looking to land body kicks.
Dresden takes one to the side of the head.
Dresden fails with a takedown attempt.
Dresden misses with an uppercut

and Karlsson counters with a crisp one two that drops Dresden! Karlsson thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Dresden to his feet! Dresden is in big trouble!
Oh Dresden is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

A jab-cross combination lands for Dresden and sends Karlsson crashing to the mat! Dresden follows him down to the mat - Karlsson regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!


Karlsson is rocked!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Dresden lands a big elbow - Karlsson is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Dresden!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Lakoj Dresden!
An out of breath and clearly excited Lakoj Dresden thanked Sin City Allstars for their help and support (and free stuff they sent him).
