Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rick Meyers (ranked 24516 p4p, 0 weight class) and Devin Alvis (ranked 24557 p4p, 0 weight class). Alvis has chosen God’s plan as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rick Meyers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Devin Alvis!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvis throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Alvis looking to score a takedown here. Meyers is defending well but Alvis drives through and ends up in Meyers's guard.
Alvis preventing the sweep.
Alvis trying to control the position from guard on top but Meyers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Meyers wants to stand up but Alvis is controlling him.
Alvis with a nice head shot there.
Meyers lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Meyers is looking to work some ground and pound but Alvis has wrist control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alvis pushes Meyers off and scrambles back to his feet.

Meyers moves into range and clinches up with Alvis.
Meyers is trying to push Alvis away but Alvis has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Meyers fails to pull guard.
Meyers jumps guard but Alvis stands there with Meyers around his waist. Meyers gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Meyers jumps guard and drags Alvis to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Alvis trying to stand up but can't free himself from Meyers's guard.

Alvis works over Meyers with some ground and pound from guard.
Alvis not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Alvis wants to control from the top but Meyers keeps moving.
Alvis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Meyers swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Alvis controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Meyers throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Alvis has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Meyers is proving hard to escape from.
Alvis pushing down on Meyers's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Meyers wants to improve his position but Alvis is controlling well.

Meyers pushes Alvis off and gets back to his feet.
Alvis shoots for a takedown but Meyers saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Meyers has managed to clinch.
Meyers is trying to break the clinch but Alvis is controlling him.
Alvis is pushing Meyers up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Meyers fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rick Meyers. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Alvis ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Alvis no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Meyers won't allow Alvis to sweep him here.
Alvis is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Alvis has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Meyers decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Alvis, up you get!

Alvis lands a shoulder strike.
Meyers throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Meyers ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Meyers no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Alvis is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Meyers working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Alvis has passed into half guard!

Meyers manages to escape and get back to his feet!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Devin Alvis will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Alvis misses with a series of wild punches.

Alvis has Meyers up against the cage in a clinch.

Meyers has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Alvis uses from the top position.
Meyers wants to sweep here but Alvis controlling him for the moment.
Meyers keeping moving, preventing Alvis from controlling successfully.
Meyers might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Meyers will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Alvis decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Meyers throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Alvis is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Alvis darts in looking for a takedown but Meyers gets double underhooks and turns Alvis into the cage.
Alvis is breathing heavily.

Meyers defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Alvis.
Alvis tried to score with a low kick but Meyers checks it.
As Alvis looks to move away, Meyers throws a big counter combo but Alvis just gets out of the way.
Meyers lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Meyers shoots for a double leg takedown but Alvis sprawls well. He's pushed Meyers's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Alvis tries to score a power double leg takedown but Meyers sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Alvis somewhat.
Rick Meyers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Devin Alvis.

Meyers fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Alvis's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Meyers has taken the fight to the clinch.
Alvis is trying to force a seperation but Meyers has the dominant position.

Meyers successfully pulls guard.
Meyers wants to improve his position but instead Alvis has moved into half guard.
Still in half guard, Alvis seems content to control.

Alvis is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Meyers defends it well.
Alvis wants to take a breather but Meyers is having none of it.

Meyers is looking for a sweep. Alvis is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Alvis decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Alvis shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Meyers sprawls well. Meyers wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Alvis gets slowly back to his feet.
Meyers appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Alvis keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Alvis has Meyers up against the cage in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Devin Alvis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


The fight stays on the outside here - Meyers looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Meyers manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Alvis breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Alvis takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Meyers closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Meyers in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Alvis tries to bench press Meyers off him but Meyers keeps the position.
Meyers connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Alvis some visible discomfort.
Meyers landing strikes.

Meyers decides to stand up, so the ref orders Alvis to his feet.

Alvis has managed to clinch.

Meyers breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Alvis shoots for a double leg takedown but Meyers sprawls well. He's pushed Alvis's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Meyers swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Sloppy strikes from Alvis. Those never looked like landing.

Meyers closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Meyers breaks the clinch.
Meyers shoots in but no luck this time.
Alvis is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Meyers dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Alvis. That did some damage!
Meyers stuffs the takedown attempt from Alvis. Alvis gets slowly back to his feet.
Meyers quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Rick Meyers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Devin Alvis.

Alvis closes the distance and clinches.
Meyers comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

Meyers pulls guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Alvis controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Meyers looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Alvis puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Alvis is just content to waste time from the top position. Meyers takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Rick Meyers overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Alvis's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Meyers avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Meyers doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Meyers wants to sweep here but Alvis controlling him for the moment.

Meyers has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Alvis has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Meyers is trying to break the clinch but Alvis has him pressed against the cage.
Meyers is trying to pull guard but Alvis turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Meyers lands a nice elbow.

Alvis jumps guard and drags Meyers to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Meyers chips away with some ground and pound.
Alvis is trying to keep Meyers in close.

Meyers with a flurry of punches that miss.
Alvis looking to hit a scissor sweep but Meyers is one step ahead there.

Alvis is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Meyers defends well.
Alvis controls Meyers momentarily but Meyers frees himself.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Rick Meyers has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Devin Alvis is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Meyers makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

And that's the end of the fight!

I think Alvis has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
