PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Trey Brown (ranked 3986 p4p, 440 weight class) and Jimmy Cathaway (ranked 1243 p4p, 167 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 38 - 23 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Trey Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jimmy Cathaway!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Konstantin Menshow and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A solid leg kick lands there for Cathaway.
Brown takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Cathaway thows a left - swing and a miss!
Cathaway swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Brown takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Cathaway stuffs the takedown attempt from Brown. Brown gets slowly back to his feet.
Brown staying out of range there.
Brown changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cathaway tries to avoid it but Brown manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cathaway to the ground. Cathaway escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cathaway lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Brown chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Cathaway can pounce on him.

Cathaway just misses with a punch to the body.
Brown half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Brown fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Cathaway to the ground. Brown is now in Cathaway's guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Brown is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Cathaway slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Cathaway is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Brown has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Brown shoots in but Cathaway avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Nice uppercut lands for Cathaway. That snapped Brown's head back.
Jimmy Cathaway seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cathaway drops Brown with a big left hand and mounts him. Brown is in big trouble!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Cathaway working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Oh Brown is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Brown tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Cathaway controlling his opponent.
Brown seems to have got his legs back now.

Cathaway is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Brown can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Brown is trying to stand.

Cathaway prevents Brown from getting the reversal.

Cathaway stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

BOOM! Cathaway lands a beautiful left hook that drops Brown. Brown tries to recover but Cathaway is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Brown lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jimmy Cathaway!
Jimmy Cathaway was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
