PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Muhammad Jabbar (ranked 7506 p4p, 590 weight class) and Leonard Howell (ranked 6164 p4p, 542 weight class). The key to victory for Muhammad Jabbar has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Muhammad Jabbar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Leonard Howell!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Howell doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Jabbar scores with a hook to the body. Howell takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Jabbar enables Howell to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Jabbar manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Howell looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Jabbar controls Howell momentarily but Howell frees himself.
Jabbar pulls Howell in to control the position.
Jabbar not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Jabbar is really struggling to control Howell but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Howell postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jabbar is trying to keep Howell in close.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Howell takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.


It looks like Leonard Howell has been cut.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Howell dives in and scores a takedown into Jabbar's guard.
Howell trying to control the position from guard on top but Jabbar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jabbar seems keen to control Howell's posture.
Jabbar tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Howell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jabbar swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Howell postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Jabbar preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Jabbar avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Howell throwing strikes from guard but Jabbar blocks nicely.
Howell connects with a couple of short punches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Howell advances to half guard.
Jabbar is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Convicted Fight Club, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Howell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jabbar keeps working.
Howell is thwarting Jabbar's attempts to control the position.

Howell is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Jabbar has managed to free his arm - good work.
Jabbar tries to roll over but Howell keeps him under control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Howell is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jabbar defends it well.
Howell thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Jabbar's head.
Jabbar keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Jabbar is looking for a sweep. Howell is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Howell moves nicely into side control.
Jabbar is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
A lull in the action here.
Howell working the ground and pound.
Jabbar gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Jabbar tries to roll over but Howell keeps him under control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jabbar is looking to control Howell's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jabbar avoid being mounted?

Howell is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Jabbar doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Howell.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leonard Howell dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Leonard Howell's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Howell looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Jabbar quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Jabbar tries a head kick but it misses.
Jabbar pushes Howell away with a front kick.
Howell wants to clinch up but Jabbar keeps it at a distance.
Leonard Howell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Howell shoots for a double leg takedown but Jabbar sprawls well. He's pushed Howell's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Jabbar bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Howell shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Howell was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Jabbar is trying to get back to half guard.

Howell in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Jabbar is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Leonard Howell!
