PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Luther Jones (ranked 496 p4p, 73 weight class) and Crack Head (ranked 589 p4p, 90 weight class). Jones comes to the cage accompanied by One - Metallica. Crack Head told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Luther Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Crack Head!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Sam Margolis and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones with a poor takedown
and Head counters with a nice uppercut.
Jones uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Head.
Head has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Head misses with a hook. Jones ducked under it nicely.
Jones changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Head looks to throw the jab but Jones is out of range.
Head throws a lazy uppercut

and Jones counters by clinching up.
Head can't find room to land a body shot as Jones controls the action.
Head lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Jones backwards.
Head tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Jones's elbow.
Jones goes for a takedown attempt but Head pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Head enables Jones to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Head manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Jones passes Head's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Jones tries to pass the half guard into mount. Head knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Head is staying active underneath Jones, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Jones stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Head to get to his feet.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Head as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luther Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jones forces Head back against the cage and clinches.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Jones.
Head misses with a shot to the kidneys.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Head.
Head doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Jones tries to throw a body punch but Head avoids it by throwing Jones back against the cage.
Head lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Jones swings wildly with an uppercut but Head uses good head movement to avoid it.

Head breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jones shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Head's guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Head can do anything to dispel that myth.
Head wants to stand and escape but Jones is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Head is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Head trying to keep a closed guard but Jones is proving a slippery customer.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jones pushes down on Head's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Head wants to improve his position but Jones is controlling well.

Jones controlling the pace.
Head really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Jones frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Head is wriggling around trying to escape.
Jones is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Jones controlling the position easily from mount.
BOOM! Jones connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Jones prevents Head from getting the reversal.
Head wants to hold on but Jones pushes him away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Head taking shots to the head.
Head is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Jones has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Head's face.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Head is bucking up trying to escape but Jones cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Luther Jones dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Head misses with a body shot.
Jones tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Head counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Jones cracks a nice hook into Head's ribs.
Head throws a shot from downtown. Jones moves away and avoids it.
Jones is looking to clinch but Head is avoiding it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jones takes the fight into the clinch.

Head breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Luther Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones lands with a right hand.

Jones is looking to clinch.
Head swings and misses with a hook to the body.
As Head looks to move away, Jones throws a big counter combo but Head just gets out of the way.
Head leaves Jones with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
A nice side step and Head releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Head throws a big shot that misses.
Jones feinted with a counter takedown.
Jones lands with an overhand left.
Jones dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Jones is trying hard to land a takedown here. Head sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
A countering left hand to the body from Head misses.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but Head shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
It seemed like Head was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luther Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Head counters with a straight right hand.
Jones ducks under a wild hook from Head.
Jones changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Jones takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Jones staying out of range there.
Head misses with a hook to the body
and Jones counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Head thinking.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Jones wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Head takes a swing at Jones's ribcage but misses.
Head circles away from the clinch attempt.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Head! But no joy.
Head scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Head keeps the fight on the outside.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Head misses the shot to the body.
Crack Head seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Head ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Jones moves away.
Jones shoots and misses
and Head connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Head with a jab.

Jones feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Jones wants to take a breather but Head is having none of it.
Head is looking for a sweep. Jones is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jones is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Head!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Jones cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jones lands a big shot there that rocks Head but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Head is squirming around, avoiding Jones's attempts to control the action.
Jones with shots to the head and body - Head looks very uncomfortable down there.
Jones lands a couple of good shots and Head has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Luther Jones will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Jones moves in looking to clinch but Head pushes him off.
Jones blocks a jab.
Jones appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Head lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Jones tries for a takedown but Head sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Jones jabs Head to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Jones uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Head.
Jones bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Jones shoots in for a double leg but Head sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Head misses with a telegraphed body shot

and Jones counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Jones won't allow Head to sweep him here.
Jones working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Head's head.

Head keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.
Jones is really struggling to control Head but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Jones pushes down on Head's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Jones lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Head is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Head is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Jones scores with a couple of nice shots.

Crack Head has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Jones stalling away here and it's allowed Head to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Head looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Jones is in close to Head's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Head is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Jones makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Jones advances position into side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones advances nicely into full mount.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Jones cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Jones with shots to the head and body - Head looks very uncomfortable down there.
Head takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
BOOM! Jones connects with a massive shot to the dome!


Head is rocked!
Jones lands a nice shot to the head.
Head is still in real trouble! Can Jones finish him?
Head takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Jones controlling from mount.
Head is in a horrible position here. Jones smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Jones postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Head in real trouble here! The ref calls for Head to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:48 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Luther Jones!
After winning the bout, Luther Jones thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
Crack Head was interviewed post fight and said 'I eat enemy placenta for breakfast'.
