Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Paulo Guedes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Giampaolo Turturro!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Peter Branson and David Hoff.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Turturro fails with an attempt to clinch.
It looked like Guedes was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Turturro.
Guedes scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Turturro is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Turturro tries to clinch up.
Guedes just misses with a punch to the body.
Turturro tries to counter by closing the distance.
Turturro tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Turturro tries to close the distance and clinch but Guedes swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Giampaolo Turturro seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Turturro is looking to clinch but Guedes is avoiding it.
Guedes keeps the fight on the outside.
Turturro drives through and clinches with Guedes against the cage.
Guedes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Turturro ducks under a wild hook from Guedes.
Guedes throws a jab but it's blocked by Turturro.
Guedes circles away from the clinch attempt.
Guedes lands the left hand.
Turturro tries to clinch up
and Guedes counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Turturro has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Turturro closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Turturro tries to pull guard but Guedes won't allow it.
Turturro jumps into guard, dragging Guedes to the mat.
Guedes postures up.
Guedes has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Guedes drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Guedes jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Guedes is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Turturro has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Guedes is looking to defend but Turturro has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Guedes! Turturro pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Guedes taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Giampaolo Turturro!
After the fight, Giampaolo Turturro was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
