The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burks clinches up with Hexum and pushes him back against the cage.
Hexum breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Burks really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Burks tries to close the distance and clinch but Hexum swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hexum stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hexum wants it to stay on the feet.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Hexum. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Burks has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Hexum is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Burks.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hexum throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Burks counters with a leg kick.
Burks gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Hexum turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Burks tries to bench press Hexum off him but Hexum keeps the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hexum misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Jackie Burks has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Harald Hexum is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jackie Burks.
