PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Aleksander Kazimierz (ranked 1669 p4p, 80 weight class) and Nick Mullen (ranked 1749 p4p, 83 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 1, fighting out of London, Aleksander Kazimierz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 1, fighting out of New York, Nick Mullen!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Glass and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Mullen misses

and Kazimierz counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Kazimierz jumps into guard, dragging Mullen to the mat.
Mullen wants to stand but Kazimierz has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Kazimierz is looking for a triangle but Mullen pushes his legs off easily.
Kazimierz looking for a sweep. Not yet Kazimierz, not yet.
Mullen trying to control the position from guard on top but Kazimierz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kazimierz seems keen to control Mullen's posture.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mullen trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Mullen engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Mullen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kazimierz has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mullen has managed to get both his arms back between Kazimierz's legs - danger averted.
Mullen told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Mullen is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kazimierz has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Kazimierz is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Kazimierz is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at London MMA Club that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Kazimierz wants to sweep but no luck.
Kazimierz is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kazimierz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kazimierz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mullen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mullen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Mullen gets caught napping as Kazimierz dives in and scores a takedown. Mullen manages to retain guard.
Kazimierz loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Kazimierz won't allow Mullen to get back to his feet.

Kazimierz is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Kazimierz thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Kazimierz takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Mullen lands with a cross.
Mullen keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Mullen feints and then cracks Kazimierz's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Kazimierz down.
Nick Mullen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A solid leg kick lands there for Mullen.
Mullen lands a front kick.
Mullen finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Kazimierz has managed to clinch.
Mullen tries to stall but Kazimierz uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mullen with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Kazimierz is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mullen pulls him back up using the underhooks.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Mullen takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Kazimierz wants to take the fight to the mat but Mullen manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

A frustrated look appears on Mullen's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Kazimierz can't get the takedown.
Mullen tries a knee to the head but Kazimierz blocks it.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Kazimierz.
Mullen misses with the head strike.
Kazimierz is trying to drag Mullen to the mat but Mullen just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Mullen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Mullen throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Mullen throws a push kick but Kazimierz slaps the foot to one side.

Mullen tries to sprawl but Kazimierz drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Kazimierz has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Mullen keeping control of the position.
Kazimierz throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Kazimierz is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Mullen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kazimierz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kazimierz looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mullen with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mullen is trying to control but can't.

Kazimierz is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mullen doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kazimierz.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Mullen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Mullen swings for the body but Kazimierz moves out of range.
Mullen misses with a wild combination.
Mullen bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Mullen lands a nice leg kick that just misses Kazimierz's sensitive parts.
Mullen will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Mullen throws a body shot but no joy.

Kazimierz drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Mullen controls the position for a moment.

Kazimierz stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Mullen delivers a nice body kick.

Kazimierz drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Mullen is working an open guard so Kazimierz takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Mullen gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kazimierz to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Kazimierz stands and throws Mullen's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Mullen is being controlled here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mullen is trying to buck Kazimierz off.

Kazimierz takes a little break here. Mullen wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Kazimierz postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Mullen is looking to reverse the position.
Kazimierz is staying tight to Mullen's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Kazimierz works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
An elbow from Kazimierz crashes against the mat.
Kazimierz throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Mullen prevents Kazimierz from moving into mount.

Kazimierz tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Kazimierz looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Mullen is avoiding damage well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Aleksander Kazimierz showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Kazimierz has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
