PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cain Marko (ranked 22555 p4p, 209 weight class) and Bubba Barzilla (ranked 7086 p4p, 190 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Barzilla's choice of entrance music: Ima Boss. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Paul Tew and Chris Edwards.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barzilla showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Marko.

Marko closes the distance and clinches.
Barzilla tries to work over Marko's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Marko is looking to take this one to the mat.
Barzilla misses with a body punch.
Marko blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Marko pulls guard.
Marko keeping moving, preventing Barzilla from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barzilla trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barzilla wants to control from the top but Marko keeps moving.
Marko wants to sweep here but Barzilla controlling him for the moment.

Marko is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Barzilla gets to his feet - Marko follows without any prompting.
Barzilla will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Barzilla lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Barzilla works over Marko's head and body with a nice combination.

It looks like Cain Marko has been cut.
Marko avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Barzilla looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Marko closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Barzilla to the mat! Barzilla manages to get full guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Marko gets to his feet - Barzilla follows without any prompting.
Barzilla shoots in but no luck this time.
Barzilla throws a head kick but Marko moves out of range.
Barzilla fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Barzilla looks winded!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Marko shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Marko showed some decent athleticism there.
Marko prevents Barzilla from standing back up.
Marko is taking a breather. Barzilla says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Marko seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Barzilla for as long as he can get away with.
Barzilla is trying to stand.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Marko in particular looking to stall.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Marko wants to pass the guard but Barzilla is defending well.
Barzilla is trying to stand up here but Marko is controlling him well.
Marko slows the pace down in half guard.
Barzilla really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Marko. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Barzilla has hold of Marko's hands but Marko slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Marko is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Barzilla!

Barzilla is trying to stand back up but Marko is controlling him
Barzilla is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Marko scores with a couple of nice shots.
Marko lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Marko postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Barzilla to stand up.
No luck for Barzilla with that takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Cain Marko will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Marko throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Barzilla tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Marko is in Barzilla's guard.
Barzilla wants to sweep but no luck.

Marko gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Barzilla fails with an attempt to clinch.
Marko appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Barzilla throws a sloppy head kick and Marko moves out of range easily.

Marko closes the distance and clinches.

Marko has control of Barzilla's left arm, preventing Barzilla from doing any damage.
Marko continues to stall.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Barzilla has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Marko to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Barzilla is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Marko pulls down on the head and he's put Barzilla to sleep! This one is all over!
