Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jason Craig!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ryan Buttigeig!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Ryoma Takatsuka and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Buttigeig tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Buttigeig throws a sloppy head kick and Craig moves out of range easily.
Craig tries to counter with a takedown but Buttigeig is quick to defend against it.

Buttigeig has managed to clinch.

Buttigeig manages to break the clinch.
Craig closes this distance looking for a takedown but Buttigeig circles away.
Craig avoids a kick to the body.
As Buttigeig tries to get set, Craig tries to push him back and clinch up but Buttigeig manages to avoid the attempt.
Buttigeig scores with a sloppy right hand. Craig should have avoided that one.
Buttigeig tries to clinch there but Craig circles away.
Ryan Buttigeig seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Buttigeig misses with a takedown attempt - Craig sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Craig closes this distance looking for a takedown but Buttigeig circles away.

Craig dives in for a single leg takedown but Buttigeig sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Buttigeig darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Buttigeig is nestled in close to Craig, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Craig is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Craig is trying to stand back up but Buttigeig is controlling him

Craig pushes Buttigeig off and gets back to his feet.
Craig shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Buttigeig as he jumps to the side.
Craig is looking to clinch.
Buttigeig shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Craig pinned against the cage. Craig gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Craig uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Buttigeig.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Craig breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Buttigeig feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Craig's calf.
Craig gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Buttigeig counters with a one-two to the body.
Buttigeig tries to score a power double leg takedown but Craig sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Buttigeig somewhat.
Buttigeig shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Craig pinned against the cage. Craig gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Buttigeig has closed the distance and engaged Craig in a clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Craig is trying to push Buttigeig away but Buttigeig has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Buttigeig escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Buttigeig shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Craig pushes Buttigeig off and gets back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Buttigeig is defended easily by Craig.
Buttigeig shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Craig pinned against the cage. Craig gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Craig half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ryan Buttigeig will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Buttigeig struggles to land a body shot inside as Craig controls his hands.
Buttigeig tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Craig just stands there and leans against the cage.
Jason Craig has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryan Buttigeig.

Craig gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Craig trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buttigeig utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Buttigeig can do anything to dispel that myth.
Buttigeig wants to sweep here but Craig controlling him for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Buttigeig throws his legs up looking for a submission but Craig uses it to pass to side control.

Buttigeig takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Buttigeig is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Buttigeig is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Craig is controlling him well.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Buttigeig wants to control but Craig postures up.
Craig tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Buttigeig really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Craig. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Buttigeig tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Craig presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Craig is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Buttigeig can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Buttigeig is looking to reverse the position.
Craig has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Buttigeig is looking to regain half guard here but Craig keeps moving and retains side control.
Craig is trying to ground and pound but Buttigeig uses the momentary lack of control by Craig to regain half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Buttigeig manages to get to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Craig has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Buttigeig is looking to land body kicks.
Craig takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Craig throws a head kick but Buttigeig moves out of range.
Craig darts in looking for a takedown but Buttigeig gets double underhooks and turns Craig into the cage.
Buttigeig is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.
Buttigeig tries to score a power double leg takedown but Craig sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Buttigeig somewhat.

Buttigeig displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Craig.

Craig shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Buttigeig manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Buttigeig uses the cage to get back to his feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Buttigeig.
Craig shoots in for a takedown but Buttigeig shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jason Craig. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Buttigeig changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Buttigeig looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Buttigeig feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Craig pushes Buttigeig off and scrambles back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Buttigeig wants to lay and pray for a moment but Craig keeps working.
Buttigeig content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Craig moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Buttigeig lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Buttigeig controlling from the top position.
Buttigeig throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Craig works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Ryan Buttigeig.
I think Buttigeig has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
