PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ichabod Crane (ranked 2235 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ice Tea (ranked 4436 p4p, 0 weight class). Crane comes to the cage accompanied by Love Inc!-Broken Bones!. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 19 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ichabod Crane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ice Tea!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, John Kavanagh and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tea moves into the clinch.

Crane manages to break the clinch.
Crane darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Tea gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Crane counters with a one-two to the body.
Crane connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Crane keeps Tea at a distance using the push kick.
Crane lands a nice shot that snaps Tea's head back.
Tea goes for a double leg but Crane avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Crane continues to drive forward.
Tea fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Crane tries to counter with a takedown but Tea is quick to defend against it.
Ichabod Crane has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ice Tea.

Crane feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Crane stands and throws Tea's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Tea wants to control but Crane postures up.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Crane is trying to get an arm triangle but Tea is defending well.

Crane has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Tea!
Tea is working to get back to half guard.

Crane has control of Tea's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Tea regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tea is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.

Crane working for a submission but Tea is keeping him at bay.

Crane has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Tea tries to hold on but Crane pushes him away.
Tea has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Tea sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Crane is pressing down on Tea's thigh, looking to free his foot. Tea is holding on for now.

Tea is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Crane pulls his head out easily.
Crane is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Crane wants to take a breather but Tea is having none of it.
Crane is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Crane is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Tea defends it well.

Crane is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Tea is just riding it out for now. Crane eventually gives up the hold.
Tea is in trouble now - Crane has advanced to mount!
Crane can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Tea is looking to escape.

Tea tries to hold on but Crane postures up.
Crane lands a couple of good shots and Tea has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

Crane lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Crane.

Crane lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Crane connects with a single shot there.
Ichabod Crane is winning the standup battle so far.
Tea slips a jab and a cross from Crane.
Tea fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Tea drops his hands momentarily and Crane takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Tea looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Crane is fending him off so far but Tea persists. Nope, Crane circles away and we're back to standing.
It looked like Crane was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Crane is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Tea can do to turn this around?
Crane stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Crane wants it to stay on the feet.
Ichabod Crane has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ice Tea.
Tea shoots in looking for a takedown. Crane tries to sprawl out of it but Tea keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Crane manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Crane connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Tea has closed the distance and engaged Crane in a clinch.

Crane breaks from the clinch.
Crane throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Tea darts in looking for a takedown but Crane gets double underhooks and turns Tea into the cage.
Crane connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Tea goes for a double leg but Crane avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Crane continues to drive forward.
Nice uppercut lands for Crane. That snapped Tea's head back.
Crane scores with a one two! Tea had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Crane catches Tea with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Crane comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Tea instigates a clinch.

Crane breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Crane cracks Tea with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Crane scores with a nice strike.
Crane throws a sloppy head kick and Tea moves out of range easily.
A chopping leg kick lands by Crane.
A combination from Crane does no damage.
And Tea tries to counter it with a takedown but Crane pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Crane scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Crane throws a nice looking combination but Tea bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Tea feints and as Crane raises his hands in defense, Tea changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Tea drops back looking for a leg! Crane is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Crane manages to kick Tea off! Tea jumps back into Crane's guard.

Tea trying to control but Crane is working from the bottom.
Crane has Tea pulled in close to control his posture.
Tea must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Crane scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Tea takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Tea pushes Crane up against the cage in a clinch.
Tea wants a takedown.

Crane's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Crane closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Tea's guard.
Crane wants to control from the top but Tea keeps moving.
Crane passes into half guard.
Crane is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Tea looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Crane is trying to control. Tea wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Crane is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Ichabod Crane dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tea thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Tea is looking to take a break and control but Crane is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Crane throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Tea on the side of the head.
Crane connects with a leg kick. Tea looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Tea misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Crane wants to stand up but Tea is controlling him.
Crane has control of Tea's left arm, preventing Tea from doing any damage.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Crane closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Crane lands in his opponent's guard.

Tea pushes a forearm under Crane's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Crane is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ice Tea!
An out of breath Ice Tea thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
