Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kim Sweet!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mario Santana!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Jeff Smith and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santana shoots and misses
and Sweet counters with a nice uppercut.
Santana looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Santana shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sweet defends it nicely.
Santana takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Santana shoots in for a takedown but Sweet shows good takedown defense.
A little feinted left hand from Sweet on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Kim Sweet has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mario Santana.
Santana fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Santana tries for a takedown but Sweet circles away easily

and Sweet counters by moving into the clinch.
Santana has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Sweet is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Sweet drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Santana gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Sweet manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Santana manages to get himself to full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sweet wants to stand but Santana has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Sweet is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sweet pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Sweet slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Santana tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sweet defends well and Santana ends up having to push Sweet into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Sweet stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sweet wants it to stay on the feet.
Sweet goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Sweet shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Santana is trying to defend but Sweet finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Sweet is looking for a kimura but Santana is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Sweet to get the leverage.

Santana felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Sweet seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Sweet seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Sweet wants to stand but Santana has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Sweet decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Sweet lands a nice short elbow.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Santana avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Sweet.
Sweet thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Santana's head.

Sweet stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Sweet misses with a jab, cross combination.
Sweet jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Sweet dives in and scores a takedown into Santana's guard.
Sweet landing with the ground and pound.
Sweet content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Sweet sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Santana is working an open guard so Sweet takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Sweet fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Santana to the ground. Sweet is now in Santana's guard.

Sweet gets to his feet. Santana looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Sweet looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Sweet lands with a hook. Santana tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Kim Sweet is winning the standup battle so far.
Santana tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sweet swivels and escapes.

Mario Santana has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kim Sweet is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
