Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jake Plunkett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Costel Rusu!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Ivan Kurochkin and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Plunkett misses with a takedown attempt - Rusu sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Rusu looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Plunkett takes the fight into the clinch.
Plunkett scores with a shot to the side of Rusu's head.
Plunkett throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Rusu blocks it with crossed arms.

Plunkett's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Rusu is trying to force a seperation but Plunkett has the dominant position.
Plunkett drops down looking for an ankle pick but Rusu pulls his leg out and moves away.

Plunkett shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rusu as he avoids it easily.
Plunkett shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Rusu eats them both and turns towards Plunkett to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.


It looks like Costel Rusu has been cut.
Plunkett lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Plunkett.
Rusu moves out of range of the body kick.

Plunkett gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Rusu is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Rusu tries to work over Plunkett's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
A bit of stalling here from Rusu.

Rusu goes for a takedown attempt but Plunkett pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Plunkett rushes Rusu and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Plunkett manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Plunkett is on top in guard.

Plunkett postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Plunkett is working Rusu over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Plunkett decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
A head kick misses from Plunkett.
Plunkett scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Rusu takes one to the side of the head.
Plunkett fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee is keeping an eye on Plunkett - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Plunkett changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Rusu fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Plunkett is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rusu can do to turn this around?

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Plunkett looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rusu with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Plunkett tries to pass to full mount but Rusu defends it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Plunkett looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jake Plunkett.
Well Plunkett has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
