Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rupert Baird!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Johnny Bigsberg!
The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Donatello Bradman and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baird shoots and misses
and Bigsberg counters with a straight right hand.


It looks like Rupert Baird has been cut.
Bigsberg shoots in for a takedown but Baird shows good takedown defense.
A quick step to the side and Baird tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Baird really is a fat lump.
Bigsberg fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Bigsberg lands a jab-cross combination.
Nice takedown defense from Bigsberg. No joy for Baird on that attempt.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Baird is fighting to break Bigsberg's control of his arms but Bigsberg is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Baird keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Rupert Baird has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny Bigsberg.

and Baird counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Baird.

Bigsberg manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Baird wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Bigsberg has him pressed against the cage.
Baird is trying to force a seperation but Bigsberg has the dominant position.
Bigsberg is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Bigsberg's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Baird shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Baird showed some decent athleticism there.
Bigsberg is pressing down on Baird's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Baird is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Baird throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bigsberg works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Bigsberg is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Bigsberg is looking for a triangle here but Baird uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Baird tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Baird has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Bigsberg manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Bigsberg is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Bigsberg is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Bigsberg shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Baird sprawls well. Baird wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Bigsberg gets slowly back to his feet.

Baird gets underhooks to prevent Bigsberg's takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bigsberg goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Baird dives in and grabs Bigsberg's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bigsberg pushes down on Baird's head and hops out.

Baird closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Bigsberg did well to prevent Baird getting side control.

Baird looks up at the clock and then as Bigsberg takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Baird smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Baird is looking for the choke from the back position but Bigsberg is controlling his hands well.
Bigsberg just trying to survive but Baird is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Bigsberg might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Baird haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Bigsberg scores with a kick to the midsection.
Baird fails with a takedown attempt.
Bigsberg tries to counter with a clinch but Baird shakes him off and moves away.
Baird blocks a head kick by Bigsberg.
Baird tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Bigsberg swivels and escapes.
Bigsberg drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Baird defends it well.
Johnny Bigsberg seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Baird shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bigsberg as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rupert Baird. That's going to take a lot out of him.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Baird accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Bigsberg isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Baird stacks Bigsberg on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Baird!

Bigsberg looks to move to half guard but instead Baird has passed into mount! Damn!

Baird drops an elbow to the side of Bigsberg's head.
Rupert Baird overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Baird looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bigsberg with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Baird in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Bigsberg tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Baird!
