Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alex Medina (ranked 5037 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luke Penn (ranked 3119 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alex Medina!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Luke Penn!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Roger Salmon and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Medina shoots in and drives through. Penn sprawls well.
As Medina backs off Penn throws a huge counter combo but Medina manages to avoid it all.
Penn has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Medina is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Medina has his takedown stuffed

and Penn counters with a crisp one two that drops Medina! Penn thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Medina to his feet! Medina is in big trouble!


Medina is rocked!
Penn swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Medina is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Medina fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Penn manages to avoid it.
Penn misses with a hook

and Medina counters with a shoot takedown. Penn fights it but they end up in guard.
Medina controls from within his opponent's guard.
Medina missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Medina stops Penn from standing up.
Medina has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Medina with a nice head shot there.
Penn really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Medina. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Medina landing with the ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Medina accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Medina prevents Penn from getting back to his feet.
Penn working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Medina.

Medina is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Medina throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Penn utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Medina throwing strikes but missing.
Penn working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Medina.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Medina is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Penn is looking to stand up but Medina isn't so interested in that idea.
Medina with a flurry of punches that miss.
Medina is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Penn throws a leg kick but Medina moved away.
Medina appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Penn misses with a hook.
Medina is looking for a counter combo.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Penn throws a sloppy head kick and Medina moves out of range easily.
Medina takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Penn goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Penn avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Medina gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Medina takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Medina. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Medina is breathing heavily.
Penn lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Penn connects with a right that clearly hurt Medina. He's backed up against the cage with nowhere to go as Penn proceeds to tee off with vicious combinations till Medina collapses and taps out under the pressure!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Luke Penn!
Luke Penn was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
