PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aki Hiko (ranked 1101 p4p, 137 weight class) and Beckett Bellwether (ranked 917 p4p, 112 weight class). Beckett Bellwether struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 266.6lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Aki Hiko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Beckett Bellwether!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Trevor Gratis and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hiko pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Hiko swings for the body but Bellwether moves out of range.
Bellwether looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Hiko cracks Bellwether with an open hand slap.
Bellwether missing with a left hand there. Hiko was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Hiko moves out of range of the strikes.
Hiko appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Hiko shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Nice shot by Hiko.
Bellwether works the jab nicely.


It looks like Aki Hiko has been cut.
Bellwether jabs Hiko right on the nose. Hiko blinks but takes it well.
Bellwether moves out of range as Hiko strikes.
Hiko scores with a jab to the head.
Bellwether throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Hiko changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Bellwether is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hiko.
Hiko half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Bellwether takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
We've been informed that Bellwether has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hiko scores with a three punch combo!
Hiko throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Bellwether stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Hiko misses with a hook.
Bellwether blocks a jab.
Hiko looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Hiko lands with a nice body punch.
Hiko blocks a jab.
Hiko appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Hiko lands a leg kick that knocks Bellwether off balance momentarily.
Bellwether misses with a looping right.
Hiko smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Hiko lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Hiko throws a low kick but Bellwether moves out of range easily.
Bellwether stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Hiko scores with a head kick.
Bellwether throws a leg kick that is checked

and Hiko counters with a single leg into guard. Bellwether didn't expect that.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bellwether keeping moving, preventing Hiko from controlling successfully.
Hiko lands a couple of decent looking shots.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hiko throws a big right hand that misses.
Hiko is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Bellwether had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hiko defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hiko sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Bellwether doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Hiko paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Bellwether - great work!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Beckett Bellwether!
In his post fight interview, Beckett Bellwether started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
