PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tom Jahr (ranked 5898 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Paul Carp (ranked 1568 p4p, 0 weight class). Jon Paul Carp will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tom Jahr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jon Paul Carp!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Sandra Marshall and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jahr defending well as Carp loads up on a big left hand.

Jahr gets the takedown into side control.
Jahr working the ground and pound but Carp is defending the strikes.
Carp really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jahr. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Jahr throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
You can see the frustration on Carp's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Jahr grinds an elbow into Carp's temple.
Carp tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Jahr easily slips into full mount!

Jahr slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Jahr has his foot on Carp's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Carp works his way back into a safe position though.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Jahr is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Carp can do to turn this around?
Jahr throws a jab but it's blocked by Carp.
Carp tries to counter by closing the distance.
Carp lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Jahr stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Carp.
Tom Jahr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jahr tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Carp defends well and Jahr ends up having to push Carp into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Carp feints and then cracks Jahr's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Jahr down.
Jahr shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Carp but Carp pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Carp fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Jahr has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jahr shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Carp's guard.
Carp is trying to control the position but Jahr postures up.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Jahr here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Jahr slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Carp has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at ELITE Island Gym - 19 Elite Coaches. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Jahr manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Carp manages to get himself to full guard.

Jahr is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Carp dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Jahr. That did some damage!
Carp throws out a loose jab but Jahr uses good head movement to avoid it.
Carp fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Jahr.
Carp defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jahr.
Jahr shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Carp as he jumps to the side.
Jon Paul Carp is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A nice inside leg kick there by Carp. That's going to slow Jahr down.
Jahr is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Carp with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Carp tries a head kick but it misses.
Jahr swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

Carp escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jahr gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jahr, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Tom Jahr decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
