Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sylvain Lievremont (ranked 2177 p4p, 0 weight class) and Royler Gracie (ranked 604 p4p, 72 weight class). Gracie has chosen Olha a Explosão as his entrance music. Sylvain Lievremont has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Sylvain Lievremont!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Royler Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Peter Branson and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie leaves Lievremont with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
We've been hearing reports that Lievremont has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Lievremont looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Gracie!

Lievremont is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gracie knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Gracie is looking for a sweep.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lievremont swings around for an armbar but Gracie sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Lievremont's guard.

Lievremont working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gracie doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gracie manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lievremont looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gracie is one step ahead there.
Gracie tries to free his leg and advance position but Lievremont is retaining full guard.

My spies in Yaw-Yan Ardigma inform me that Gracie has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Lievremont is looking for a triangle but Gracie pushes his legs off easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Gracie stands and throws Lievremont's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Lievremont tries to buck Gracie off but Gracie is having none of it.
Lievremont gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Lievremont looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Gracie pushes past his half guard into mount!

Gracie is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Gracie is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Lievremont doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gracie.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

That was a close round but I would say that Sylvain Lievremont will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Lievremont closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Lievremont lands in his opponent's guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

That was a close second round but I would say that Sylvain Lievremont will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Gracie misses with a body punch

and Lievremont decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gracie's guard.

Lievremont sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Gracie doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Lievremont paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Gracie - great work!
