PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anton Shibaev (ranked 420 p4p, 61 weight class) and Jon Paul Carp (ranked 1866 p4p, 239 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Anton Shibaev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jon Paul Carp!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carp throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

Shibaev has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Shibaev displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Carp throws out the jab.

Good leg kick by Carp there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Shibaev tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

and Shibaev counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Carp working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Shibaev doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Shibaev manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Carp wants to sweep here but Shibaev controlling him for the moment.

Carp utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Shibaev has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Shibaev lands a nice forearm strike.
Shibaev cracks Carp with a big right hand but Carp just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Carp is trying to control Shibaev's posture but Shibaev avoids it.
Shibaev connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Carp some visible discomfort.

Shibaev is looking to take a break and control but Carp is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's time! Shibaev's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Carp has taken the fight to the clinch.

It looks like Anton Shibaev has been cut.
Carp throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Carp tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Shibaev misses with a hook to the ribs.
Shibaev jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Carp walks away with a smile on his face. Shibaev gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Carp is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Shibaev is looking to take this one to the mat.

Jon Paul Carp seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Shibaev looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Shibaev jumps guard but Carp stands there with Shibaev around his waist. Shibaev gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

A relieved looking Jon Paul Carp thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
