PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kelvin Handleman (ranked 1138 p4p, 153 weight class) and Peter Hare (ranked 1538 p4p, 204 weight class). Handleman comes to the cage accompanied by Pride FC Theme. Peter Hare has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kelvin Handleman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 25 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Peter Hare!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hare fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Hare throws a head kick that looked like it stung.


It looks like Kelvin Handleman has been cut.
Hare slaps away a takedown attempt from Handleman, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Hare tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Handleman was well out of range. Poor timing from Hare.
We've been hearing reports that Handleman has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Handleman throws a jab when Hare was well out of range.
Nice shot lands for Hare.
Handleman has a takedown stuffed.
Hare swings for the body but Handleman moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A decent looking cross lands there for Handleman.

Hare lands a big head kick that sends Handleman tumbling to the mat! Hare takes a step backwards and waves Handleman back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Hare throws a right and a left that Handleman avoids nicely.
Oh Handleman is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Handleman shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Handleman thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hare's head.

Poor strikes thrown by Handleman there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Handleman throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Handleman cracks Hare with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Handleman wants to control the pace but Hare is squirming around nicely.
Handleman is trying to control here but Hare has managed to regain half guard.

That has opened up Peter Hare's cut even more.
Handleman throws a strike but Hare avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Hare keeping moving, preventing Handleman from controlling successfully.
Handleman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Peter Hare will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Hare wants to land a leg kick but Handleman is out of range.
It looked like Handleman was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Handleman shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hare's guard.
Handleman wants to control from the top but Hare keeps moving.
Hare wants to stand up but Handleman is controlling him.
Handleman is in close to Hare's body, working some short punches and elbows.


The cut above Peter Hare's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Handleman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Handleman postures up and lands a big shot to Hare's brow.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Handleman wants to control from the top but Hare keeps moving.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hare is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Handleman in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Hare has momentary wrist control but Handleman slips an elbow through the middle.
Handleman prevents Hare from getting back to his feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
A big left from Hare misses.
Hare throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Handleman misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hare.

Hare gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Handleman to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Handleman keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hare's head.

Peter Hare's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Peter Hare's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
