PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight kickboxing rules bout between Gerrie Schutte (ranked 6549 p4p, 511 weight class) and Dustin Queen (ranked 5281 p4p, 474 weight class). Schutte comes to the ring accompanied by Groot Voël Paradys. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Gerrie Schutte!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dustin Queen!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Daniel Cesar and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Queen blocks a head kick by Schutte.
No joy there for Schutte, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A swing and a miss from Queen.
Schutte appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Queen misses with a jab, cross combination.
Schutte slips a straight right by Queen.
Queen connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Schutte momentarily.
Schutte misses with a kick to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Schutte doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Schutte scores with a head kick.

enabling Queen to counter with a crisp jab.
Schutte has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Queen is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Schutte.

Schutte has taken the fight to the clinch.
Schutte creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Queen throws a body punch but Schutte moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gerrie Schutte will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Queen throws a hook to the side of Schutte's head but Schutte sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Queen lands with a hook. Schutte tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

It seemed like Queen was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Schutte moves into range and clinches up with Queen.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A bit of stalling here from Schutte.
Schutte is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the ropes.
Queen on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Schutte tries to throw a body punch but Queen avoids it by throwing Schutte back against the ropes.
Schutte is looking to control Queen's arms but Queen gets an underhook and turns him. Now Schutte has his back to the ropes.

Schutte breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dustin Queen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Queen throws out a counter right but Schutte avoids it with no problem.
Schutte really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

and Schutte makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Schutte throws a sloppy head kick
and Schutte takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
A head kick by Schutte misses
and Queen counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Queen thuds a left hand into Schutte's body.

Queen works over Schutte's head and body with a nice combination.
Queen lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Queen looks to score with a jab to the body but Schutte is just out of range.

Schutte slips under a jab from Queen.
Schutte is looking for a counter combo.
Queen avoids the head kick by Schutte.
Schutte tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Queen looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Schutte tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Queen manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dustin Queen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Queen has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Dustin Queen seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
Gerrie Schutte spoke after the fight, saying 'I refuse to bury my head in the sand!'.
