PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bart Cubbedge (ranked 1279 p4p, 152 weight class) and Lamont King (ranked 2791 p4p, 292 weight class). King has chosen King For A Day - Green Day as his entrance music. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bart Cubbedge !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lamont King!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, George Francis and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cubbedge keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from King.
King lands a glancing blow to the side of Cubbedge 's head.
King sizes up Cubbedge with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
King is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cubbedge .
Cubbedge wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
King fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Cubbedge went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
King lands a slapping body shot.
King jabs Cubbedge right on the nose. Cubbedge blinks but takes it well.
Cubbedge looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Cubbedge fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
King throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
King throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Cubbedge on the side of the head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
King moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
A head kick misses from King.

Cubbedge dives in for a single leg takedown but King sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the ropes.
King swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Cubbedge pulls out of a head kick attempt.
King ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Cubbedge takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
King misses the jab.

and Cubbedge counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
King is looking to get back to is feet but Cubbedge passes into side control.

King sneaks out the side door and pushes Cubbedge away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Lamont King is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cubbedge ducks under a wild hook from King.
King misses the jab.
Cubbedge changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
King misses with a straight left.
Cubbedge feinted with a counter takedown.

King moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Cubbedge lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but King circles away quickly and effectively.

Cubbedge drives through with a takedown into guard.
Cubbedge trying to control but King is working from the bottom.
Cubbedge stops King from standing up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cubbedge is looking to work some ground and pound but King has wrist control.
Cubbedge looking to pass the guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Cubbedge being controlled here momentarily.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Cubbedge tries to counter with a takedown but King is quick to defend against it.

Cubbedge looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? King is fending him off so far but Cubbedge persists. Nope, King circles away and we're back to standing.

Cubbedge lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Cubbedge .

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


A jab from King finds it's way through Cubbedge 's defenses.
King misses with an uppercut. Cubbedge saw that one coming.
Cubbedge wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
King lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Cubbedge at a distance.
King throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
King throws a left and a right that both miss

and Cubbedge counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for King!

Cubbedge is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, King has escaped the position, nice work there.
Cubbedge creates some space and throws a big elbow, but King sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
King regains half guard there - taking advantage of Cubbedge 's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Bart Cubbedge overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

King is trying to stand.
Well, if Cubbedge is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Cubbedge seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but King does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Cubbedge perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Cubbedge is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
King misses with an uppercut.
Cubbedge ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
King throws a front kick that sends Cubbedge stumbling back into the ropes.
Lamont King seems to be getting the better of the standup.
King throws the left hand but Cubbedge avoids the punch easily.

King is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Cubbedge 's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

King is looking to escape.
King has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Cubbedge looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Cubbedge is taking a breather. King says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

A close second round but Lamont King will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

King is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The fight stays on the outside here - Cubbedge looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

King throws a looping overhand right but Cubbedge ducks down to avoid it.

King swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Cubbedge shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says King as he avoids it easily.

and Cubbedge takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Cubbedge is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from King.
King looking to land some kicks to the body here.

Cubbedge drives through with a takedown into King's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

King trying to keep a closed guard but Cubbedge is proving a slippery customer.
Cubbedge slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Cubbedge wants to pass the guard but King is keeping the position.
King is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cubbedge is controlling him.
Lamont King is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Cubbedge controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Cubbedge stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. King swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cubbedge prevents King from getting back to his feet.

King looking for a sweep. Not yet King, not yet.
King is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cubbedge is controlling him.
Bart Cubbedge has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bart Cubbedge .
I think King has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Lamont King very nearly forgot to thank Arcticus University: London amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
