PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Naoise Durnin (ranked 1389 p4p, 159 weight class) and Simon Vale (ranked 700 p4p, 90 weight class). Durnin's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, I'm Shipping Up To Boston by The Dropkick Murphy's. Vale has chosen Motorhead-Iron Fist as his entrance music. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Naoise Durnin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 25 - 0, fighting out of New York, Simon Vale!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Durnin swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

A little jabbing left from Vale on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Durnin just misses with a punch to the body.

We've been told by Durnin's head coaches at ~T~ Troid - Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Vale throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Durnin uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Vale.
Vale shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Durnin but Durnin pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Durnin cracks Vale with an open hand slap.
Vale goes for a double leg but Durnin avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Durnin continues to drive forward.
Vale has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Vale throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Durnin ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Durnin lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Vale lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Vale.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Vale working his ground and pound in the gym.

Durnin sneaks out the side door and pushes Vale away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Vale content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Durnin tries to kick Vale off but Vale keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Vale thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Durnin's head.
Vale wants to lay and pray for a moment but Durnin keeps working.
Vale has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Vale. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close second round but I would say that Naoise Durnin will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Good leg kick by Durnin there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Durnin does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Vale misses with an uppercut. Durnin saw that one coming.

Vale scores with a jab. Durnin acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Durnin enables Vale to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Durnin manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Durnin is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Vale is controlling him.

Naoise Durnin showed his dominance in that final round.
