PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Shane MacGowan (ranked 352 p4p, 50 weight class) and Gennady Mikhasevich (ranked 428 p4p, 60 weight class). MacGowan comes to the cage accompanied by The Pogues - Streams of Whiskey. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Shane MacGowan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gennady Mikhasevich!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Paul Tew and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mikhasevich motions for MacGowan to come forward. Mikhasevich throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
MacGowan is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
MacGowan dives in for a single leg takedown but Mikhasevich sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
MacGowan closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mikhasevich circles away.
Mikhasevich unleashes a big counter combination but MacGowan bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
MacGowan shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mikhasevich defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shane MacGowan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

A little feinted left hand from MacGowan on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Shane MacGowan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
MacGowan is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Mikhasevich can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Mikhasevich wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by MacGowan.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mikhasevich tries to lock up and control but MacGowan gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
MacGowan is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Mikhasevich is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but MacGowan is staying active.

We've been hearing that MacGowan has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

MacGowan lands a big shot there that rocks Mikhasevich but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Mikhasevich is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
MacGowan throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Mikhasevich because MacGowan loaded up on that one.
MacGowan breaks from Mikhasevich's wrist control and lands an elbow.

MacGowan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mikhasevich is in a horrible position here. MacGowan smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Mikhasevich wants to control but MacGowan is having none of it.

Mikhasevich just misses with a punch to the body.

MacGowan fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mikhasevich sprawls well initially but MacGowan persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
MacGowan not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Mikhasevich on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
MacGowan wants to take a breather but Mikhasevich is having none of it.
Mikhasevich is looking to control MacGowan's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mikhasevich avoid being mounted?

MacGowan is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

MacGowan scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Mikhasevich to see if he's OK.

Mikhasevich is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if MacGowan gets his way!

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Mikhasevich is controlling MacGowan's posture.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Mikhasevich has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but MacGowan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

MacGowan's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for MacGowan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
