Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Freddie Shepherd (ranked 6335 p4p, 0 weight class) and Super Speed (ranked 4922 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Freddie Shepherd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Super Speed!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Speed drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Shepherd could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Speed trying to control the action but Shepherd is working from the bottom.
Shepherd gets back to half guard.

Shepherd is pressing down on Speed's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shepherd wriggles free and stands up.

Speed decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

The fighters are battling for position here. Shepherd manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Speed is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Speed drops back, looking for a kneebar! Shepherd looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Shepherd looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Shepherd!

Shepherd remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Speed gets caught napping as Shepherd dives in and scores a takedown. Speed manages to retain guard.
Shepherd is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Shepherd postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Shepherd engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Shepherd has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Speed is on him like a limpet, forcing Shepherd back against the cage.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Shepherd's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Well Shepherd has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
