PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tobin Frost (ranked 2415 p4p, 294 weight class) and James McGuire (ranked 2488 p4p, 302 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying McGuire's choice of entrance music: Metallica - Enter Sandman . James McGuire told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 10 - 3, fighting out of New York, Tobin Frost!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, James McGuire!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Ben Zyskovitsi and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Frost clinches with his opponent.

Frost uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by McGuire.

McGuire's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Frost swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and McGuire counters with a straight right hand.
Frost rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but McGuire moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

McGuire instigates a clinch.

Frost breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

McGuire moves into the clinch.

McGuire drags the fight down to the ground.
McGuire avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Frost trying to control the position from guard on top but McGuire is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
McGuire keeping full guard, as Frost tries to pass.
Frost wants to get up but he can't break McGuire's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
McGuire controls Frost momentarily but Frost frees himself.
McGuire looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Frost wants to pass the guard but McGuire is keeping the position.
Frost loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Frost would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
McGuire uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Frost.
Frost fails in his attempt to clinch.
McGuire tries to close the distance and clinch up but Frost swats him away and circles back towards the center.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

McGuire breaks from the clinch.

McGuire rushes Frost and presses him up against the ropes.

McGuire pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
McGuire misses with a jab, cross combination.

McGuire forces Frost back against the ropes and clinches.
A nice left hand lands by Frost.
Frost tries to work over McGuire's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

McGuire breaks from the clinch.
Frost wants to clinch.

Frost closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes.
Frost working hard to break the clinch.
Frost unloads a knee to the mid-section. McGuire lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Frost gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from McGuire.
McGuire has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tobin Frost will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Frost lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.


It looks like James McGuire has been cut.
McGuire doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Frost rushes McGuire and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.
McGuire has had enough of the clinch but Frost keeps him there for the moment.

McGuire's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
McGuire fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Frost on the side of the head.
The fight stays on the outside here - Frost looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Frost rushes McGuire and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.

Frost lands a hook that snaps the head of McGuire backwards.

Frost tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and McGuire avoids it.

Frost throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Frost fakes high and swings low for a body shot but McGuire manages to avoid it.

A nice side step and McGuire releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Frost takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
McGuire needs to keep his hands up - Frost had a free shot at his head there.
Tobin Frost is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Frost tries to bum rush McGuire with a series of wild strikes but McGuire uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Frost takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Frost stuns McGuire with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

That was a close second round but I would say that Tobin Frost will probably get the nod.

With the fighters up against the ropes, McGuire throws an elbow but misses.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Well Frost has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
