PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Anton Obuhov (ranked 148 p4p, 24 weight class) and Don Stewart (ranked 240 p4p, 35 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 18 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Anton Obuhov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Don Stewart!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Richard Clark and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stewart scores with the left hand. Obuhov knows he should have avoided that one.
Obuhov is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Stewart.

It looks like Anton Obuhov has been cut.
The fighters circling - Obuhov throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Stewart misses with a straight right.
Obuhov cracks Stewart with a right hand to the side of the head.
Stewart takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Obuhov connects with a nice short shot to Stewart's temple.
Stewart is looking for a sweep. Obuhov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Obuhov seems to be looking for submissions.
Stewart has hold of Obuhov's hands but Obuhov slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Obuhov thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Stewart's head.
Stewart is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Obuhov's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Obuhov's back!

Our spies down at at Seppes Gym inform us that Stewart has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Stewart lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Stewart.

Oooh a big shot gets through from Stewart. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!

Stewart bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Obuhov's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Obuhov throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Stewart tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Obuhov is in Stewart's guard.

Obuhov escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Stewart gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Obuhov is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Stewart defends well.

Stewart is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
